What type of lawyers make the most money?

Schona
I'd have to say, corporate lawyers. Just a guess.

Corporate lawyers representing big businesses make by far the largest paychecks.

trvrrhds
greedy ones.
on a more serious note.
if you are contemplating being a lawyer to help people who have been wronged in some way, your rewards may not be in dollars but in satisfaction & gratitude & sleeping with a clear concience!!!

i think it is the Personal injury lawer, because i used to work in those kind of Firm and everyone says personal injury lawyers is money maker. because what they do is help their client claims for their personal injury and just to do that they get to split 1/3 of the total claims. like pretend the lawyer claims (approx)$10000, and clients get 3333.33, lawyers get 3333.33 and the rest probably go the the doctor's client is seeing for medical bill. those lawyer gets money for helping client claims for injury which the lawyer don't have to get hurt like the client and still share the money.

Lawyers do not make as much as people like to think they do. It is easy for a lawyer to make several hundred thousand dollars a year (which is good money, but it's nothing special), but it is rather difficult for one to make significantly more then that.

the three common ways for a lawyer to get rich are:
1) Become a huge named partner at a super-firm. This is very difficult to do.
2) Be a personal injury attorney and hit the jackpot of a multi-million dollar claim. The odds of doing this are slightly better then just playing the lottery. Probably easier to just go to Vegas.
3) Take a cut of a start up business or patent as the fee. Then have the business be successful and cash out the stock. Again pretty risky, cause if the business fails, the lawyer gets nothing.

If you just want to make money, do not go into law. Business school is the school of making money, so go there.

Those lawyers that drive the fancy cars and pretend to be big spenders are probably not. Most likely, they are living outside their means and spending money they don't have. Otherwise, they may have invested their money well, but then they are making money not by being a lawyer, but by other means.

It depends on the city and the attorney.

Contingency - you can perhaps earn a large fee, but it may take several thousand hours which would end up pennies for each hour worked.

By the hour - going rate for a great attorney can run to to whatever rate he wants to charge per hour or quarter hour (I know one that charges $600 every 15 minutes).

(The answer above mine is somewhat poor - personal injury can charge 1/3 to 40%, depending on the nature of the claim. Good attorneys do not pay for doctors - that is unethical. )

No matter what you must pay for the costs. You must have an "at risk" to enter a claim. Your "at risk" is the costs to takes to prove your claim. For example, medical records, postage, copying, sheriff's charges, courier fees, filing fees, etc. So the other "1/3" the person above me was referring to would refer to those charges, but it RARELY comes close to being a true 1/3. It is more like 2-3% of the total recovery.

If you have a medical lien, it is also negotiated from the settlement.

Many times, attorney take less to satisfy all parties.

It doesn't matter what type for as long you you have alot of bigtime clients and media exposure because it will help alot in marketing their profession. Exceptionally rich are druglords lawyers and politico lawyers as well.

Princess
Corporate lawyers, lawyers who work on CERCLA litigation, class action lawyers, and some medical malpractice/personal injury lawyers make lots of money.

There are lawyers that don't make very much money at all, though (a lot of people don't know this). Public interest lawyers don't make more than $40,000/year. Prosecutors don't make a whole lot of money either.
