lol, normally I would look at the situation. If they look like gansters I mind my own buisiness. However the situation varies depending on what's going on. A defenseless woman, I would dial 911, report, then assist. Although knowing I will get my *** kicked, and such. Or an unfair fight and such, it depends.

If I know they are innocent, I would fight. If It was a woman being beat up by some thug, I would fight. If it was just a couple of hooligans duking it out - I'd mind my own business.

First I'd dial 911 on my cell so i would know the cop's were on the way, and then i would jump in to assist the person who was being attacked.

1st, dial 911 from my cell phone and put it back in my pocket, then assess the situation and decide if I have an chance to do any good. If so, jump right away...if not, find the nearest weapon(anything heavy or sharp) and THEN jump in!
Note: I would call 911 and leave my cell in my pocket so they could track my location while I was helping.

Go to your local Police station and ask them what to do if something bad happens, they are highly trained people, I am sure they will train you what to do when you are in such situation....

Always dialing 911 is the best option.....

Call 911 and then try to break up the fight. You can't fight anybody because you may be fighting the innocent, but the innocent may have had the upper hand just as you eyewitnessed it.

I they are bing attacked phyiscally by one or two people I would help the person and fight whoever (some martial arts experience) If they where being attacked verbally I would stand up for them because it is not right for someone innocent to be attacked, it is messed up and immature.

The most effective way is to first size up the situation. Just sacrificing yr self is an advantage to the baddies. Bid yr time and wait for an opportune moment to get even.
Most of the time though the baddies use the pretence to help in order to get their finger in the pie
