Whatever happened to the Gender Equity in Education Act that was supposed to be implemented in 1995?

I am reading Peggy Orenstein's 1994 book "School Girls" and she mentions this Act several times. I have not found any document on this Act. Does anyone know what happened to this Act? Did it get knixxed? Added to another bill under different verbage? Did it die?

It evolved into US Dept of Education's "Women's Educational Equity Act" and is still going strong. You can see the program in it's entirety at http://www.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/esea02/pg86.html
