When do you think weed will be legal in the U.S.?
Find answers to your legal question.

When do you think weed will be legal in the U.S.?

Right now in America marijuana is in a legal gray area, and every day more and more learn the real reasons USA criminalized it in the first place. Across the globe where is was once illegal it is now legal or just ignored. The U.S. is the last place that is adamantly against it. They still try and hold on to those old beliefs that it is a gateway drug and it makes you stupid. Although, it was really about whites not likeing the Mexican's culture.
Additional Details
my arguement is completely valid. If you look back when it was criminalized it mostly had to do with mexican immigrants. Popular publishing and radio companies spread lies about its effects which inturn caused people to believe that it was bad. This was because whites simply didn't want to be like the mexicans

Sorry man, its not about Americans not liking the Mexican culture its about TAXES. Tobacco is a fairly tough product to grow, and its something that causes obvious and measurable health problems. Alcohol takes time and money to produce and is a health concern with large intake.

So therein comes the SIN TAX. Because these are things considered an optional item, and one that you are arguably hurting yourself with, the government has deemed it something that can be taxed on a higher bracket, and some going to the producers. Its the same as luxury taxes, you have to pay them on nice cars and such because they arent a necessity, you have to have some serious money to get them.

Weed is the exact opposite, its not hard to grow with simply information on the internet. It's health damaging affects are negligable, and any major ones are simply unprovable because of lack of conclusive evidence. So major corporations could make it a trade and not be taxed for it nearly as much as they can other things. For a class I had back in high school I figured down the cost of a pack of joints as opposed to a pack of cigarettes. It came out that the profit margin on smokes was somewhere in the 400% area, and if weed was mass produced, the profit margin would be much higher. The average pack of 20 joints would cost maybe $1.50 at most, and still have an extreme profit. Unless they can impose a sin tax on it, marijuana will never be legal, cause the gov would make no money off of it.They make more money fighting it then they do allowing it.

Pot will not become legal in the United States unless/until the government finds a way to:
a) make more money taxing than prosecuting it
b) find a way to replace all the cash flow for legal fees and 'rehab'
c) find some other easy 'handle' on people they can't bust on other charges

Liquor changes your brain and you do things you wouldn't
normally do..usually bad and have caused many deaths by
people who drive drunk. We legalized it and now we see what
has happened...many grieving relatives of those killed by a drunk.
Weed also makes changes and people will do bad things while
on drugs that they wouldn't otherwise do (just ask the cops), so
should we legalize it as we did alcohol? Well, we should have
learned a lesson here from past mistake, shouldn't we?
