When does the African American's right to vote expire?

The voting rights act will expire eventually but that doesn't mean the right to vote expires. The voting rights act is a federal law that imposed certain requirements on some states. For instance, it required certain states to seek federal approval before making any changes in its voting law or procedures. Those states had a a history of throwing up roadblocks to voting, like the poll tax.

I think the Voter's Rights Act expires in 2007, but let's face it..the way things are going, NO ONE will have the right to vote if the powers-that-be have anything to say about it!

What is an African American?? If I was in Africa would I be an American African? If you were a white guy from Africa would you too be an African American?? Stop being racist. Your vote expires the first time you don;t use it. Wake up.

We're not going back on that one.

The Ku Klux Klan doesn't control things like it once did.

African Americans were voting in the South following the Civil War until the Democrats organized the Ku Klux Klan and intimidated them because they were Republicans.

It doesn't. Nor does anyone else's. Everyone's right to vote is guaranteed by the 15th Amendment (men) and the 19th Amendment (women) to the United States Constitution.

Never the 15th Amendment states: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Henceforth if you are a U.S. citizen your right to vote is protected by the 15th Amendment

The Voting Rights Act will expire in 2007 if Congress doesn't renew it ... and Congress is dragging its heels about it for as long as possible to appease the real bigots in some of the Southern States ... it has to do with literacy tests etc., not only for African Americans, but for all poor and disadvantaged people .. it's weird but wonderful ...

BeachBum
I don't know the exact date but if Congress doesn't re-enact the Voting Rights Act before this session ends then it will expire. There is a lot more to it than just voting rights. The voting rights act prevented districts from putting things like voting fees and read/writing ability test at the polls. They used to use this kind of stuff to stop blacks from being able to vote. Things like if you didn't own property you couldn't vote.

I have figured out the reason they don't want to renew it. It is so they can manipulate the election this Fall LEGALLY. Then they will come back into session and renew it.

I'm SURE that is EXACTLY what they are doing. By not renewing it they will be able to LEGALLY manipulate voting in November; thereby, keeping control of all 3 branches of our government.

Never everyone gets to vote that's 18 or over till they die no matter what race they are because everyone is equal. And deserve the same amount of respect.
