When does the PATRIOT ACT expire?
Find answers to your legal question.

When does the PATRIOT ACT expire?

I've been searching and haven't found anything useful. I realize that some parts expire before others. But, when does the majority of it expire or come up for renewal.

No links I'm tired of reading them.

It doesn't.

Like *most* US laws, it is law until Congress chooses to change or repeal it.

A few provisions of the law have sunset clauses in them, but the bulk of it does not.

The poster above does not apparently understand the way the US legislative system works. A President does not get to "renew" a law passed by Congress. The Presidents authority is limited to either signing it after it has been passed, or vetoing it.

Once a law has been passed by Congress and signed into law by the sitting President, it is beyond the touch of future Presidents. Only Congress can repeal it.

And anyway, why would Obama - a Democrat - want to repeal a law that was written and passed by a Democrat controlled Congress in the first place?

As a Democratic Senator, Obama voted *for* the Patriot Act. Why would he move *against it* as President?

(Both of the votes referred to in the link in the answer above were votes that Obama cast as a senator, when he was pushing the Act.)

Despite all his "big talk" on the campaign trail.... Barack "McBush" Obama RENEWED the patriot act.

LOL.... I love shoving things in the face of Liberals. so much for their "change"....LOL

Read it and weep..... (if you can read).
