When people commit a crime, and go to jail, why do so many not serve their full sentence?
Find answers to your legal question.

When people commit a crime, and go to jail, why do so many not serve their full sentence?

If someone is sentenced , why should they have a chance to get out through parole. why doesn't the sentence they get stick???why is parole even available???
Additional Details
I THINK THAT IF SOMEONE DOES A CRIME AND IS PUT IN JAIL FOR IT THEY DESERVE TO SPEND ALL THAT TIME IN JAIL!!!!i think it's ridiculous that space is an issue. so what's to stop criminals from commiting a crime if they know chances of them seving a long time is slim to none??i think we need to keep building prisons, but i don't think they need to have tv's and all those other luxuries that waste money. thank you for answering:)

Parole, early release, intensive supervision and other programs that provide for an inmate to be released prior to the completion of his sentence exist in large part because they give the inmate incentives to rehabilitate himself. A prisoner is less likely to assault another inmate or an officer if he knows that that act will cause his release date to be moved back significantly, for example. Similarly, an inmate in the free world has a powerful incentive to abide by his conditions of release (which go far beyond simply not committing a crime) if he knows that the result of violating them is a return to prison.

Another reason for programs like this is that they are significantly cheaper than housing a felon in an institution. Housing an inmate in an institution is roughly comparable to renting a hotel room in terms of costs for most places in the US. Felons on early release programs generally cost a state between a fourth and an eighth of that cost.

Of course not all inmates are eligible for early release programs. In many states, the sentencing time is mandatory for certain crimes or for criminals who have already been convicted on other charges.

Sentences rarely involve one length of time. They are usually a range of say 5-10 years, 5 years being the minimum amount of time. It is extremely rare, if it happens at all, for someone to be let out before this time.

I agree with you 100% I think if the right amount of money is offered then anyone can get out!

Parole is available for people who prove they deserve a second chance. Everyone deserves at least a second chance.

Because there isn't enough room in the jails to hold every criminal....

Cause they get out on good behavior and we have way too many people in prison

Because prisons fill up and there is not enough space for all criminals which is why if you can show remorse you'll be able to get out on parole.

parole does not mean freedom however, if you violate the terms of your parole you go back in.

cause the law suks, here in the UK someone can be sentenced to 12 years and be out in half that time. I say fry them all.

Because the prisons are supposedly overcrowded. I say stack 'em in there like firewood!

Too many prisoners....so they have to let some out.
Plus all some people need is a sample to help them out

Parole makes it so that rehabilitation programs are in the best interest for the criminal, otherwise they can choose to remain unremoresful and not attempt to improve their life. I think you want the sentence to be a justice related issue but the courts often see sentences as also a rehabilitation issue. I agree with parole but think that sentences should be longer and that work contracts should be used to properly measure the progress a criminal makes in their prison work, studies and counselling sessions (whatever the case may be)

parole is available to those whose crime is small enough that good behavior can get them a smaller sentence. theft and things like that. The sentence doesn't always stick because judges revise their opinions of the crime in question. Just another strange thing about the American justice system.

they don't hav full sentance because they didn't kill anyone

It's either cause they can talk their way out into the world or just being on good behavior also I don't think that it is normal to let them out early they will just go out and do it again.

the criminal system goes through process an when the sentence is with a chance of parole the system has to honor this. Prison is suppose to be use to change a person not throw them a way a lock the key when a child does something you send them to time out or you spank them but do you make them stay in time out the whole time or do you punish them for a couple of minutes them allow them to resume playing do you spank a child and continue spanking them forever prison is the grown person time out corner
