is it like reporting a police officer to the police! Protect their own or do they really take complaints serious?

I am in Washington so it would be the WSBA. But I am curious about else where also.

If you had access to the monthly bar journals of each state, you would see that each has a section entitled "lawyer disciplinary proceedings" and you would witness that many are disciplined, either disbarred, suspended, or reprimanded. Of 1,000 lawyers who have had complaints filed against them, if surveyed, they would indicate that the process is hardly anything to sneeze at, and that the bar associations take their duty to investigate and issue discipline very seriously. |

The bar association is duty bound to investigate a complaint. It is an ethics issue, not a criminal issue, so you don't have to worry about retaliation. |
