Religion has been restricting drug use for ages... But modern drug laws, imposed by federal governments, legally making users criminals, began in the US during the early 20th...
Opium was the first, then alcohol (briefly!), cocaine and marijuana all before the WW2 I believe... The rest followed after the 60's...
Do so research of your own, there's lots of information out there... The doco 'Grass' gives an interesting insight into the marijuana law...
Drugs laws are farcical... They are NEVER based on medical research, but are motivated politically to control sub-cultures... It was the chinese with opium, fear of african americans for cocaine, mexicans and corporate profits motivated marijuana laws... And then the good ol' US of A pressured (read:blackmailed) foreign nations to fall into line with their drug policies...
Did we not learn prohibition DOES NOT work after trying with alcohol? Drug laws CAUSE problems!
I mean for one, marijuana/hemp is the wonder plant - from textiles to healthcare, It's applications are to numerous to list... If law makers weren't so so self-serving, we could've been using hemp instead of cutting down rainforests... Ludicrous...
Buy putting the manufacture and distrubution of illegal drugs in the hands of the underworld we allow criminals to make millions, while governments waste millions in a 'war' that CAN NEVER be won...
There's no regulation, which allows ingredients to be comprimised for profit... In turn this makes drug use MORE dangerous for the end user... And for those who will remark, 'they shouldn't be taking them anyway', GET REAL... Humans have been getting high for as long as we've existed, it won't change, EVER...
Anyhow, it's obvious to all who choose to look into the subject objectively and thouroughly, that drug laws handicap society...
They will change... |
