A woman, Maggie Brown enters a supermarker to do her grocery shopping. She is in a hurry and while she sees the sign, "Caution WET floor", she decides to proceed down the aisle and slips on a potato peel. She breaks her hip and as a result, cannot work for 3 months and misses the opportunity to be promoted to Retail Manager in a busy department store. The woman decides to sue the supermarket, claiming the floor was not properly cleaned. She is claiming damages of $50,000

Damages = civil law. It would go to whatever the trial level court is called. In most states, the trial level court is called the "superior court." |

if she would have slipped on water it would have been her fault but since it was a potato peel i would say she has a chance to win some of the money if not all |

In the US it would be a civil court of record, typically but not always called "Superior" Court as distinct from say Small Claims court, or Family Law court or Drug court.... |

maybe get $10k if there is substantial physical damage. the opportunity for promotion has no relevance in this case. plantiff is to be made whole, but not to profit from the case.
so, $1200 to $1500 a month, times 3 months, and the doctor's bill. |
