Ethics produces stability. One definition of ethics is : that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions. - Dictionary.com
In a free society, Ethics define the code of conduct in which we can ALL live in harmony. Free does not mean "I can do anything I want", as my high school teach J.P. Sutich used to say, "with freedom comes responsibility". Freedom means choice within limitation, those limitations are Ethics and freedom with responsibility decreases chaos and therefore increases stability. So true stability can only exist with the presence of a strong and just system of ethics. |
