If there is a law on price gouging, that would be the worse law. Price is dependent upon demand, and in emergencies, high prices are the market's natural way of allocating scarce resources best.
Government needs to remove its heavy-handed foolishness from the marketplace. It has no place there.
Seat belt laws? Not good, but then again, the government basically owns or controls everything about driving. Your license, you car license, etc. Since they already control if you are allowed to drive and mandate all the safety devices, extending those requirements to having to wear a seat belt is not that far.
But, it should be an individual's responsibility if they choose to wear one or not. And insurance should be allowed to pay only a small minimum for injuries to people who don't wear them. |

price gouging isn't a law so I don't quite get the question.
are you asking if price gouging is worse than the seat belt law then I would definitely go with the gouging...the seat belt law is a GOOD Thing it SAVES LIVES... and is one of the few laws I think few people would complain about.
If you are inferring in your Q that there is some law that legalizes gouging then tell us what it is. I thought price gouging was illegal...hard to prove but not legal either.
as far as I know price gouging is illegal everywhere.
I also believe some cases are harder to prove than others
the laws about the topic are not as good as the seatbelt laws as the belt law is easy to enforce and the other is more difficult. |

Oh are we playing that game again? I like these. We're supposed to respond with an equally ludicrous question. I'll go first:
Which law is worse: Tha laws against selling Heroine to children or mandatory dog poop pick up on city streets? |

Thias is a no brainer, price gouging. It is immoral and unsonscionable. The seat belt law is there only to protect you in case of a collision. It has proven to be a life saver in many instances. |

Mandatory seat belt use is a good law. Price Gouging is not a law.
whats your question? |

How is price gouging a law? Do you mean laws that stop price gouging? Because those are a very good thing for everyone in the country who would be getting screwed over by greedy people that would like to manipulate the market. We need more enforcement of the laws already on the books and should probably create some new ones for stronger consumer protection.
Seat belt laws do infringe on people's right to choose how to live, but they also end up saving millions of dollars in taxpayer money that would be spent on medical costs. So that's why they're so popular (that and they force people to save their own lives- damn over-reaching government!) |

seat belts have been proven to save lives, price gouging just pisses people off...unless it's saved lives and i just missed that memo |

seat belts save lives and stops the state from having to support you in a vegetative state after you went through the windshield and landed on your head. Price gouging is a bad thing and the corporations that do it should be fined twice whatever profits they made off it. |

Maybe I missed something. Is there a law mandating price gouging?
Seriously, we have tried price controls of various goods and services.
During the Carter administration we tried price caps on gasoline. It produced incredible gas lines. It did nothing to increase the supply of gasoline.
Wonderful Idea.
If my neighbor has gasoline for sale for $5.00/gallon and he has all the gas you want, and I have gas for $1.00 but I have no gas in stock, where are you going to go????????????
Stop wringing your hands. |
