Well it`s a different slant on the Saudi Arabian idea.
1st offence cut off the hand that you feed with.
2nd offence cut off the hand that you clean yourself with, now thats when you find out who your friends are.

I believe they do that where extreme Islamists are in control. I also believe the Taliban practices this style of justice.....It works really well for them don't ya think.

While we are at it, we should also adopt the practice of flogging women who have been raped or seen in public with their face uncovered, or in the presence of a man other than their husband or family member......ya, that works really well.

Unfortunately it would not and does not work!

Many countries use mutilation as a punishment for a variety of crimes, up to and including decapitation.

Analysis of the per capita crime rate in those countries indicates a far greater criminality than in countries, which refrain from such punishments.

There is a good reason for this! In those countries, the general family and social structure promotes privilege and freedom from punishment for heads of families and clans. However those cultures do not necessarily promote education, restraint, or responsibility of action. The result is a seriously significant section of society, which operates on the principle of "I do what I want!"

The most effective method of crime prevention is the inculcation of social responsibility and ethics in the very young (preferably under the age of 4 years!)

And I am sure that is all fine until its someone you love or care about who just had there head blown off on the side of the road. And what is to stop these officers from just randomly doing this without proof?

You're right, people would stop committing crime all right. I have said for years that when someone is pulled over and is proved drunk (Breathalyzer), they should be shot right there on the side of the road. Driving drunk is as serious as walking into a nursery school with an assault rifle.
