Who agrees with me that it stupid to have the drinking age at 21 when 18 years olds can die for their country?

I do not agree. The reason why the military recruits kids of 18 or so is that such folks generally have sense of their own mortality and thus make pretty good cannon fodder. That is also the reason why they shouldn't be allowed to drink.

There are huge amounts of people 18years old, that don't go to war. If you were to lower the drinking age to 18 the kids who are 18 that don't go to war will guzzle up all the alcohol. People of this age are prone to make mistakes as just getting to college/leaving high school. Thus the drunk driving rates will go up, as well as deaths due to drunk driving.

I disagree. I think all soldiers should be allowed to drink on base BUT only 3-4% of all 18 year olds are mature enough to join the military. The rest only worry about partying and going to college to waste their parents hard earned money.

The drinking age used to be 18 years ago. But, time and time again, most 18-20 year olds showed they couldn't handle the responsibility of drinking at that age. So, it was raised back to 21.
So don't blame anyone else but the 18-20 year olds and them acting stupid with alcohol

Well, I ALMOST agree with you....but let's look at how many people UNDER 21 are actually joining the military these days. Do we just allow those between 18-21 who are in the military to drink? What about all those who choose not to enlist before they turn 21? How do you regulate that? Can a military member under 21 buy alcohol for his civilian friends when they go out? Can he/she be charged with "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" even if he/she is younger than his/her friends by purchasing alcohol for them just because he/she is in the military?

Then again, maybe it would be a good recruiting tool...when you get out of basic training or when you arrive at your first unit, then you get your military ID and you are allowed to drink with the rest of the adults. This might work.

Most people agreed with you during the Viet Nam War and at that time that's the rational they used to lower the drinking age.

First, you're not allowed to drink on any military installation if you are under 21.

Second, if you don't like it, don't join the military.

They need to lower it to 18 already. I'm so ticked that since I'm 18 I could buy booze nearly anywhere in the world but the US. There's no other like country in Europe who has it up at 21, it's ridiculous. You can drive and smoke, and join the army at 18. (army and driving at 16 depending on State).

I agree with you a 100% and I don't think is fare that our children are able to die in a war before 21 years of age, but they can not have a drink legally before age 21. I personally think they should bring the drinking age down or the age to go to war up! We were very lucky and our son came back in one piece after 4 yrs gone.
