People were forced to "grow up" faster back then and take on more responsibilities at a younger age before the advent of many modern conveniences. Kids are maturing more slowly these days, especially when mommy and daddy do everything for them.

I did, I made that decision. And you usually have to wait until 21 to drink. And it wasn't Korn, it was Pink Floyd that sang that song. If you don't know that you are under age.

I honestly think when you CHANGE is when you are an adult.
Not when you start to change, but when you are done.

Legally though, there HAS to be an age. 18 was chosen for who knows what reason, i seen many ideas and thoughts behind the age. But overall that is the last age at which the normal person has huge body/mind changes.

As for drinking and smoking age limits and marriage, that is just retardedness.
For marriage in USA it is based from state to state, you can get married at age 16 in texas. And even younger if your parents sign off on it.

Because children ages 13-18 are not capable of making adult decisions. The laws are set up to protect them from themselves. Teenagers' brains are not fully developed in the area that weighs out consequences to actions. This is a fact.

techniclly once women can have children they were permitted to marry, i think lots of girls died during child birth and in order to protect them age limits were put in place. Girls develop better from 16-25 years.

we all know that under 19 drinkers often end up doing things they regret, the government is trying to protect teenagers from being taken advantage of or hurting one another.

Emotions take a long time to develop and only now as a 29 year old do i feel in control of my emotions and can act with my head and heart.

Its very rare that 16 year olds who marry remain married for a long time.

the legal age of consent makes you an adult, or if you're an emancipated minor. A minor is defined as someone under the age of 18 that does not have the legal rights to consent to contracts without a gaurdian signature. hence permission slips for School. It started as a sign of where children went into puberty i think. but now a days children are going into puberty alot earlier than they were 200+ years ago.

well society wants to think that hopefully 19 year olds will be able to make wiser decisions that 14-18 year olds. That is why such a limit is set because we think that a sense of responsibility will be realized as we grow older.

Umm well Korn got that song from Pink Floyd annnd you have to be 21 to drink...So I think that the government realized that those ages 13-18 don't always know the laws and so they aren't responsible enough to handle it.

The reason that 21 is the drinking age is because they did a study and your brain clicks at 21 to be more responsible, some part of your brain does so you should make better/more mature and responsible decisions.

Back then 40 was old. There is more to life than smoking and drinking. The laws were passed because young people have no fore-sight. I didn't and you don't. Be patient and enjoy being 16.

One obviously you are a child if you think once you are 18 no one will tell you what to do. If you are waiting to be old enough to smoke you are even dumber yet. Enjoy your life now, adulthood is not as glamorous as you think.
