I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I don't smoke but I think banning smoking in public places is stupid.
Restaurants I understand but Pubs and Workplaces is once again stupid.
My worst fear is what happens next, now the health freaks and complainers don't have smoking to complain about what will they target next.
Alcohol is bad for you, so are petrol fumes, so is carbon dioxide, are they going to stop us from breathing out in the future.
The more these people get away with banning the more they'll target other things that they disapprove of. |

its really not that bad. I used to smoke but have stopped now but it is actually nicer being in a pub, club or restaurant with no smoke and places usually put up some sort of shelter or smoking area outside for you anyway |

not me, i smoke but why should people who don't have to suffer because of my addiction, although banning smoking in your own car is daft, unless kids are in the car too. |

I can't wait personally - I don't think that it will affect businesses that badly - there's not been a total collapse of the hospitality industry in Scotland or Ireland so I wouldn't worry too much. If you wnat to be purely mercenary about it think of all the money you save on cigs - spend it on beer instead! |

hi we have had the ban in Scotland for a quite along time. alot of our pubs and night clubs provide out door facilities under cover with heaters and we have learnt to come to terms with it. some places still need to make proper facilities. If they want to keep their customers then they will invest. I must admit alot of us drink at home as it is easier. It is not nice as a female having to smoke out on the street, but what choice do we have. You cant smoke in a bus shelter you have to smoke outside of it. You have no choice but to get used to it. It just needs the pub industry to splash out a bit on facilities to provide an outside area. hope this helps a bit. |

I am!.............. I am an adult and if i want to have a smoke with my glass of wine then i should be allowed! and at the end of the day its all the tax on ciggies that keeps things like the NHS afloat! if we all stopped smoking tomorrow the government would have no money left and collapse. ..............on second thoughts we all should do it right now!! |

i am, i dont smoke but my partner does, so i'll be sat on my own most of evening when we go out because he'll be stood in the bloody doorway, having a ciggie! |

I don't want to sound smug, but when I knew this was coming I stopped smoking last September.
I think this will spur people on to giving up just because they will get sick of being treated as second class citizens. |

I'm not really dreading it in pubs because I just simply won't go out to pubs or if I still manage to enter a pub and need a ciggie, I can always nip outside for one. I am however absolutely DREADING the ban at airports. Being a frequent flyer, I won't be able to have a cigarette while I'm waiting for a 2-3 hour delay of my plane (plus the plane journey, plus the time it takes to get out of the airport at the other side). The ban on this is absolutely unneccesary. None of the non-smokers would ever go into the smoking lounges at the airport so I don't know what's the point of doing away with the smoking lounges. When you are already stressed out because of the long waiting you are not allowed to relieve your stress with a good smoke. Having said that, I think the European pubs and restaurants will benefit from my hard-earnt british pounds as I will be going more and spending it there rather than at british entertainment establishments that are governed by some facist regime against smokers. |

I'm not dreading it as I'm a non smoker but i do have opinions about becoming a Nannie state.
smoking is legal and as such, provisions for bars clubs etc to allow a legal practise, should not be made illegal.
owners of public premises should have the right to decide for themselves whether to set asside facilities for smoking or not- whatever happenend to 'it's a free world'? |

i live in Scotland, so i have had it for nearly a year already, its a totally joke, i hate going to pubs and clubs now, some pubs have areas to smoke outside with heaters, but its not the same, as you cant take your drink outside, good luck when it comes to you, its not fun,all the best |

Can't wait to be able to go out and not be slowly poisoned by a MINORITY of people with a chemical addiction. All this stuff about it being legal, being adults etc misses the point - IT'S AN ANTISOCIAL HABIT. To all you smokers - how would you like it if you went out for a meal and had to sit next to someone who picked their nose and farted all night? |

It’s not that bad. I live in Northern Ireland so would’ve been down in the south of Ireland quite a lot after the ban was brought in there, at that time I smoked and I really enjoyed the camaraderie among the smokers who had been ‘banished’ outside, it provided an opportunity to meet new people. I have since stopped smoking and am delighted that the ban is now in place in the north, now I can go out and not come home smelling of smoke. Although I will miss the 'smokers club'!! |

I think they should put an outright ban on tabacco smoking, tabacco and cannibis are practically the same plant.
And i just hate it when people blow their smoke into your face, especially in enclosed places where you might not be able to get away from the smoke.
If it pains you that much, quit, your shouldn't have started smoking in the first place. |

We have a ban on smoking in enclosed places here in Northern Ireland already and its GREAT! No more coming home after a night out with my friends stinking of horrible smoke which is a nightmare to get rid of and no more choking in a club/bar cos of someone blowing smoke around you. Its brilliant. |

yes they will,i'm waiting for the first person to tell me to stop smoking when i'm not in an enclosed space,it'll be interesting |

Why would they...there are lots of non smokers that can't wait to finally be able to go out and have an enjoyable meal/evening without someone breathing toxic smoke over us.
The only thing we will now have to put up with is people selfishly whinging that they can no longer share their hopes of getting cancer. |

Not me, I can't wait for the ban to come in effect! No more breathing in smoke from other peoples bad habits!
From the comments of people who have gone through the ban in Scotland and Wales, it won't be as big a deal as everyone thinks it is anyway. |

What a fuss about nothing!
I live in Scotland and it is now a pleasure to go out in an evening instead of coming home reeking of somebody else's nicotine addiction and having to wash every stitch of clothing I have on and my hair.
Grow up England and start behaving like responsible adults instead of like children having a temper tantrum.
Commit slow suicide at home if you wish, but leave the rest of us to live healthy lives. |
