Who thinks the OJ sentencing was to harsh for what he did?

am no fan of OJ and in fact think he should have went to jail in 1995 but in this case he didn't even physically hurt anybody nor did he have a gun in his own hand. Plus in the laws eye's i guess you can say he kidnapped somebody but it was no kid and all he did was make him stay where they already were for a couple minutes. Plus it was his stuff.
Shouldn't a good judge not look back in the past for crimes where he was considered not guilty? What do you think? Additional Details Yeah i know you can kidnap a adult. It just seems odd that judges don't look into how it was done. Its not like he picked him up and threw him into a van or something.

I thought the sentence was kind of excessive. As you pointed out, he did not have a gun in his hand. He did not kidnap the person and keep him/her/them for an extended period of time.
I think judges tend to look at similar cases and follow the sentencing guidelines. Any time guns get involved in a case, it becomes more severe. I am not that familiar with kidnapping, but if he held people in a room against their will, that would be false imprisonment, not kidnapping. I did not follow the case all that closely, so I don't know all the details. |

the judge shouldn't look back but when you're dumb enough to admit to murdering your ex and her boyfriend in a book then i have to say i think he brought it on himself. he got too sure of himself and didn't think he was wrong in what he got away with. |

What his sentence was for had nothing to do with his past. That was established by the judge. Are you really going to pity that man? A man who brutally murdered 2 people and who beat his wife? |

I think he should have gone to jail for longer.
Normally I would agree with your views, but this guy is a total scumbag and needed to be removed from society. |

armed robbery and kidnapping. he is lucky he didn't get life. |

Do some research. Kidnapping need not involve a minor. And the fact that is was 'his stuff' is irrelevant, legally.
Pretty fair, given the sentencing guidelines. |

He chose to break the law.
His sentence was in line with the sentencing laws for
the crimes he committed..
The judge repeatedly said that the sentencing was for what happened in THIS CASE not anything from the past.
She knows the laws better than we do.
The news coverage said that she was a hardline judge.
OJ finally got a judge that wasn't "star struck" and so he finally got what he deserved!
It might be "justice delayed" but Ron Goldman's family can finally see some justice in this, to make up for the lack of justice for the death of their son. -- Same for Nicole's family!
A very sad end, for an athlete that was great in his time.

I think the sentence was to harsh, and it was given because of the 1995 not guilty verdict. |

No it was fair.
What got him in so deep was the gun. If he had no weapon it would have been a lot less. |

I think that the verdict and the counts were inflated. I think that judges love finding a black man guilty for anything and sending him to jail. Similar to Michael Vick's situation. Did you know that tons of white people got away with lynchings and were found not guilty and died before they could be tried for the murders. I hope they are burning in hell. |

The sentencing was inline with the charges. The charges were inflated to include a Kidnapping charge that was pretty thin. |

it is ALL looking in the laws eyes....and even though it wasn't a kid, you don't necessarly need to be a kid to be kidnapped...i think he deserved it, he commited felonies. |

It was harsh for the crime(s). If it were anyone else, there's no way that sentence would be dealt. The judge made a point to say that this trial was not related to the murder acquittal, but we all know better. This was a form of payback and making an example. Lots of celebs have gone through the same thing, it's not new, but his sentence was pretty severe for this particular trial. I still think he should do some time, however. I was thinking it would be about three years minimum instead of 9. |
