A Sunday School teacher is accused of kidnapping and raping a little girl, before killing her, and a well-liked, dependable young med student with everything going for him, is accused of stalking women, robbing them, killing one, and stealing the panties of his victims as trophies...all of which were found in his home, along with the smoking gun.
If we can't trust people like this, whom we normally turn to and have close relationship with, whom CAN WE TRUST? Hasn't the world suddenly become a much scarier place? Additional Details Matt--You're right of course. I am married to a Sunday school teacher/youth group leader...and my sister is a dr...both have helped countless people...but the world just seems a bit more scary sometimes...

Chill out, kid.
It's not the first time.
It won't be the last.
Most people are relilable, honest, and decent.
Occupation has nothing to do with it. |

I haven't been following those stories very closely.
Frankly, I don't have much trust in anyone. However, I don't think that those two cases are representative of this age as a whole. Think of all the med students and Sunday school teachers who are doing a spectacular job. |

Nowadays, you do have to be more careful who you trust. I only trust a few close friends. |

I honestly don't agree that people are any more or less trust worthy than they have always been. I have seen too many hypocrites in my life than to automatically assume any "profession" to be sacred. This does not mean that such persons ARE NOT worthy of trust, but every person must be evaluated on their own.
I agree that there does seem to be far more callous and lack of empathy issues out there, but not solely from the type of person you describe. |

They might be presumed guilty according to public opinion to public opinion, but that is different from being found guilty according to the law. (Hopefully!) Look at OJ, look at Michael Jackson. |

I believe that those at the top must be an example .
If the leaders are accountable and answer for illegal deeds like it should be, such cases will be isolated, much less and controlled. |

The school teacher had mental problems. As for the Med Student, intelligent people are always in danger of becoming completely Nihilistic. Once a person has abandoned all human taboos the Id may potentially be unleashed. This is why I think religion may be a good thing. If people believe in something they may behave, unfortunately most religion is so illogical that many "intelligent" people conclude its total bull. The solution is to push Buddhism, its one of the few religions that is internally logical and adaptive. Many New Age religions also require internal logic and should also reduce mass murder. Of course Pol Pot used Buddhist philosophy to justify killing 2 million people in the 1970s, but it took some pretty creative thinking.
Once you become totally Nihilistic even the risk to your own life means nothing as you would conclude that we are all so insignificant that a few years of life more or less is meaningless. What ever you do don't listen to "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. I blame them for this sort of thing. |

It just goes to show " Trust no one, not even yourself." and "Familiarity breeds contempt." |

Just because someone's a sunday school teacher or a doctor doesn't mean they're saints. They have power to do good, and they have power to do bad, just like every other person in the world no matter their occupation. Whom we can trust should be judged on the individual people, not first by the occupations they hold. Just because someone's a sunday school teacher, a doctor, a policeman, it doesn't mean that they have a get out of jail free card, it doesn't mean they can do no wrong, it's simply their occupation. |

No more scary today than it was yesterday. You have just gained more insight and knowledge, thus making it seemingly scarier.
If these stories had not been reported, or you had not seen the reports, your world would not be affected, right? |
