I am having a debate and we need to know why there are restrictions in music, movies, and games.

The main goal is to show what is suitable for what age levels. This is true for music, TV, movies, and video games.
The FCC regulates what is on TV & Radio. The swearing and such. The ratings you see in the corner are to provide parents with a tool to help determine if the programming is suitable for their children. Most TV shows are actually rated per episode. Programs are rated by either the organization that manages the system, the broadcaster, or by the content producers themselves.
Certain stores (i.e. Wal-Mart) choose to not have any music with swearing or drug overtones available in their stores. They do this to uphold their family image. |

In the U.S. you can thank the Liberals and their idea of protecting everyone from themselves. In the U.S. there aren't meant to be ANY restrictions in a sense. You could say well R rated movies only allow adults and although that is true the movies CAN be made and CAN be viewed. They may need a parental advisory tag on a CD, BUT the CD is still out there, so all that is being restricted is who can buy it. The truth is that kids can still have access, they just need parents to agree to it. The problem is in people that don't want to allow R rated movies, M rated games, and similar things to be MADE. They think that people have to be protected from themselves. |
