Why can parents no longer accept responsibility for something they have produced?

Why now is everything that a child does, not their or their parents fault, but 'the systems' fault?

People are lazy and will not take responsibility for anything these days. Kids have unfortunately fallen into that category. Just look at the headlines.
People sue the tobacco companies because they get lung cancer. They knew smoking was bad for them - but it wasn't their fault. I'm a former pack a day (or more) smoker. I knew it was bad for me, but I did it anyway - its nobody's fault but my own.
People are now suing fast food companies because they are fat. Give me a break. It's your own fault that you are overweight. Eat somewhere else.
You can break into someone's house, slip and fall, then sue the homeowner - and win. How ridiculous! |

its a sad fact of today's lifestyle - "Its not our fault", no-one can accept any responsibility, look at all these legal firms trying to sue everyone, why cant people just admit they made a mistake - we are ALL human after all.
The worst thing is these mystery problems kids seem to have these days, ADHD? its real name should be attention seeking, spoilt brat disorder!!! |

Because some people think that parenting stops as soon as the baby pops out. It's always the system's fault because to admit that it was their own fault would mean that they would have to change something about themselves or their lifestyle to stop it from happening and they are too damn lazy, ignorant or selfish, or perhaps all three, to do so. |

My Dear Ladybug: I would love to answer this question 'fully' but I only have 300 characters. As a father of 2 young daughters, I have less control over them than their friends. This came about due to 'new and improved' mental health experts, government legislation, criminal and family law changes, the economy, throw in a little of the environment and possibly some thing in the water. In the end the little brats pull their **** because parents have thrown up their hands in frustration. I was tanned with whatever came to hand on even minor infractions. It didn't cause me or the millions of other kids back in thoes days to become sociopaths, anti social or all that other crap one hears. The kids are informed by agencies and school and everyone else who receives government tax or funding of all the "help" available to them if they don't like what is going on in their life instead of dealing with it on their own. Children may be " made " by their parents but from the time of conception till their time of maturity , parents only have a 2 percent and possibly less 'total control factor' of their kids. For myself I throw my hands up a hundred times a day ...............and tell them I love them as many |

I believe the real problem is that both parents have to work to support a household, let alone if they have children. Parents are just as stresses out as the kids seem to be. I am one of those parents with a full time career and stresses at that. |

Because the system encourages it by banning parents from dealing with their offsprings as they see fit and within reason, Why would someone take responsibility for something they cant guide or reprimand without breaking one of Tonys petty laws, parents aren't parents anymore, kids go to nurseries as young as 2 so mummy can get back to work as some families couldn't pay their credit off one wage, most young couples nowadays live way beyond their means and still depend on their own parents. |

Most parents do accept responsibility for there offspring, they work hard to bring them up properly. This however is not news.
The ubiquitous survey findings that accompany all media reports are only selectively revealed. The focus inevitably falls on which ever statistic can be represented in the most dramatic and embarrassing way for which ever institution is responsible for that area of government policy.
Why?
Partly because politicians take credit for things others have achieved.
Partly because the media likes to see itself as an essential tool of democracy and must hold the government to account.
Partly because bad news 'sells'
Partly because we take a lot of stuff for granted.
Partly because there are some very bad people out there(always have been always will be)
So what can be done?
Firstly we can make sure we care sufficiently for our own offspring to ensure they learn to take responsability for them selves, and that they have a positve contribution to make to society.
Next we can all give a little spare time to get involved with organisations and groups who help influence the young people who need it most. |

Mainly because they can, and people accept the devesting of responsibility. |

it's easier to let someone take the fall, they don't want to be called bad parents so they blame everyone else for their mistakes, but we all make mistakes in life. no-one is perfect and my god it would be a boring place to live if we were all perfect wouldn't it. |

Because the parents themselves were brought up that way |

Because it is society in general no one is willing to admitt they make mistakes. It is hard raising a child it takes a lot of time and energy. Some people are so self centered some children never get the right kind of gudience.Check out the book Generation ME by Twinge. |

It's due to 'the system' putting all of their new initiatives in place that on one hand are designed to help those parents who are struggling but the service is also the easy option for those parents who can't be bothered to take responsibility.
Unfortunatly their are so many initiaties each one put in place to cure the ills that the previous one has created. |

They don't want to face up to the truth and rather live in denial. People are to proud of themselves to believe that they've done wrong and face the facts. They probably think that they're the best thing since sliced bread and feel they've been 1 perfect role model and don't do anything that could let their offspring go wild.
That seems to be most cases.
But look at Pete Doherty. Has lived his life in rehab as an drug addict and doesn't seem to ever care about his life. But have you seen his mum on tv. She doesn't at all look like the type of person who's a bad role model and ever takes drugs. Especially as she's a devout Christian and believes in god and has actually confessed that 10 years ago he was a bright kid at school and was a good sportsman. |

Its all to do with each generation of children having more of there own way than the previous generation. Reverse the situation and you will see the further back you go the better the children became. So working on that premise, its god help us in the years ahead. |

Society has a play on what a parent can and cannot do unfortunately in this day and age. |

Nobody wants to accept responsibility for anything these days... most people don't think before they reproduce... they must have the idea that kids don't need parenting and treat them as if they were a pet they could play with, feed, but not discipline or take an interest in if they don't feel like it, and if they no longer want it they can just get rid of it or ignore it. |

It is sad in today's society that we do not accept responsibility of our own actions. How many adverts are there on the television for "had and accident that wasn't your fault"
ACCIDENT = "An accident is an unfortunate event which occurs unexpectedly and unintentionally"
People having children and expecting to live on Government handouts.
Kids turning to crime and it being the fault of everyman and his dog - apart from the useless, uneducated, unemployed so called family. There are no role models and no morals in today's society. That is the problem.
If you are not willing to accept responsibility don't have kids! |
