It's not a question of rights, it's a question of accident prevention. If you really want to drink you can drink a little bit in private and most people won't raise a big stink about it if you're 18. But you can't drink at bars because most people don't live within walking distance of their favorite bar and those 3 extra years can (but not always) impart a lot of responsibility. |

I have no idea. It is my personal opinon that if you are old enough to go and die for your country you should be allowed a beer or 10 before you go and do that. |

It is not right to let someone chose to vote and/or go to war for their country and then tell them the are not old/mature enough to drink. I know that many feel it helps to prevent drinking and accidents, but my opinion is that it causes more of both. They are giving kids 3 more years to do something just because it is restricted. You know as well as I do that it is alluring to do something you are told is wrong or that you can not do! It only makes you want to do it more. Most people find drinking less fun and interesting when it is legal. I think the legal drinking age should be returned to 18. |

I don't know! BUT I think that if you're old enough to fight and die for freedom (any country's freedom) then you should be allowed to drink an alcoholic beverage if you so desire as long as you don't get stupid and drive drunk etc. |

It is my opinion that the majority of 18 year-olds are not mature enough to indulge in alcohol responsibly.
Voting and fighting for your country are productive to society. Drinking is not. |

We CAN drink legally. We can also drive legally. Just got my license after turning 18 and went to the station for some good drinks. |

Because the government feels that people are responsible enough to go to war at that age because they have already established life skills necessary for combat ( though training), though they do not feel ( even at the age of 18 you are a legal adult) that they should be allowed to comsume alcohol drinks because people at that age are vulnerable to peer-pressure, irresponsible behavior, and a lack of judgment. Also, alcohol has several negative side-affects toward a young user.Though government tests have been proved true every year many teenagers chose to go against the law that are clearly stated and drink alcohol. |

ACCORDING TO THE GOVERNMENT, PEOPLE ARE MORE MATURE AT 21 THAN 18.
MY OPINION. THEY ARE FULL SH--.
I KNOW OF NUMEROUS PEOPLE OVER 40, WHO ARE VERY IRRESPONSIBLE AND I WOULD NOT TRUST THEM WITH MY DEAD DOG.
THEN THERE IS MADD (mothers' against drunk drivers). |

The age to vote and go to war is determined by the federal government. Legal drinking age is ultimately determined by each state. Most, if not all states, have decided to go with an age of 21 for drinking because of pressure by the federal government to get federal tax dollars for roads to the states. The age of 21 is chosen because alcohol interferes with the neural development process in the brain. Full neural maturation was previously thought to be complete by age 18, but recent evidence suggests this process may continue to age 21. Premature alcohol consumption (before age 21) could hamper full neural development, thus the government (US and states) try to keep it out of your mouth before age 21. |
