Coz there are to many do gooders out there that are more worried about human rights of the guilty than the human rights of the victims |

They are probably frightened to bring back hanging as it is quite possible that the British public might eventually decide that it was a suitable way of rewarding politicians for their thieving conniving practices! |

It could happen to your family, you're right. You know what else could happen to your family? Someone could be falsely accused. It's possible and you can't give someone back their life. |

More killing is not the answer.
Doing that just brings us down to the same level as the murderer. |

We do have the death penalty in many states and also for some federal crimes. |

It was stopped years ago by the very people who nowadays are the victims, rough justice maybe, but in the right place. As for the new generation of P.C.rs its your turn next, as you so leniently sow, so shall you, much deservedly reap. Its life I am afraid, the sensible people never have a real chance against the do goodies who live miles away in another world, which in to days housing situation is getting closer to them than they realise. I will try not to smile when they are on the receiving end, with no where else to move to because the drug barons and others have taken all the space available. |

While I agree about the problems facing this country with the rising violence against innocent people, and agree that maybe the death penalty should be brought back for certain crimes.
I think that the justice system has to be 100 percent right first.
The police would have to be 100 percent sure they had the right person for the crime and the evidence should be overwhelming before they could sentence someone to the death sentence.
I do believe that if someone has committed a crime and they are given life imprisonment that, it should mean life, not let them out. If they are given 40 years they do the whole 40 years, not get out early, take their life away.
I do believe if the punishment was harder and they knew they would be in idefinately locked away that it may deter certain criminals. And I do believe that if someone takes a life they should suffer the same fate. |

because time has shown that for several reasons our jury system is not 100% foolproof. |

Take a look at the experience of the US with the death penalty. |

I am a republican liberal. Sounds wierd doesn't it?
HOWEVER my republican side wins out on this.
I am totally for the death penalty. However right now it is useless. It should only be used in cases where it is clear the person did it, and they have undeniable proof he is the one.
They should do it in a public square, and on TV, so it becomes more of a deterrent. People would see the death on TV and think twice about killing that child. Sounds brutal, but so were the murders that man committed.
No more lethal injection either, costs to much money. I am for death by firing squad. Only costs 5 dollars as opposed to thousands upon thousands on keeping them in jail.
So my version of the death penalty is quicker, more effective and costs less then our current Death Penalty. |

Ideologically, the 'left' don't believe in capitol punishment. I think that they are too afraid that they might be executed as traitors. |

Be careful what you wish for. The UK has had this off the books for a long, long time. Good for them.
Hey, I'm not a bleeding heart, but on occasions you know as well as I that we can't live with some people. Serial criminals are generally damaged goods from their youth and cannot be repaired.
But, you take a look at the US. Our criminal justice system, despite the horror stories you hear (remember, you only ever read about the screw-ups), is a pretty good one. But, even they get it wrong from time to time.
You then get into the realm of arguing about whether or not you should have a few innocents killed by the State to make sure you catch all of the guilty people. The answer is an unadultered NO. That's why a lot of places in the US are stopping the death penalty, and I hope that we get a nation-wide moratorium to stop it for good.
Remember, it's someone's life you're talking about here. That thing everyone claims is so sacred and so precious. No mistakes can ever be made in carrying it out or your whole premise for having the death penalty in the first place is bollocks. Eventually, we will have technology to insure that you nail only those who have committed the crimes they are charged with. But until that time?
Forget it. Put em in irons. Build some new guest wings onto Wormwood Scrubs. :) |

Because this is a Judeo-Christian nation, and it clearly states in the ten commandments (direct orders from the God almighty) "Though Shalt not kill". That is simple to understand.

Crime should be punished but not the criminal. Criminal minus crime becomes a person. In order to drive away the criminal attitude of a person, death penalty is not the best and last answer. Every prison should be made into a reformation centre so that a criminal could be transformed as a better citizen. Our ruling fathers have no time to think in this regard. We cling to the age-old laws which are outdated. |

I'm with you all the way, maybe just the thought that they might face the death penalty would stop some of the scum on our streets from taking another life. Problem is that most of them now seem to be about 15yr olds. An eye for an eye i say when a life is taken in cold blood. |
