Americans as a whole do not think this way. There is much controversy in our country about this issue. It is currently legal in most (I believe) states to have an abortion, but conservative religious zealots are always trying to change the law. Obviously, I am pro-women's rights (not pro-abortion and not pro-life, but believe that since it's the woman's responsibility it ultimately needs to be her choice.) |

The question is simple when stated the correct way....
Whom do you think should decide when it comes to matters concerning womens health, the woman or the government? |

Because the rights of two people are at stake. What about the rights of the fetus, who, by the way, is a human being? You'd better thank God your mother was pro-life. |

In this day and age...there is no reason for a unwanted pregnancy (except sadly in the case of rape). If a woman isn't responsible enough to not get pregnant, then she's probably not responsible enough to make the choice of whether or not this child... who, by no choice of it's own gets to live or die. Nobody is making this person raise the child. Have the baby and give it to a family who can and will raise the child with the love he or she deserves.
If some the women of this country would act more responsibly with these bodies they insist on having control over...then abortion wouldn't be an issue. |

The majority of US Citizens are Pro-Choice but the Minority is more vocal. Much of the Minority are Born Again Evangelicals and the Roman Catholic Church. They are able to influence the current US Administration. |

I believe that the people who say that abortion is murder should adopt at least one child. It is like them talking up the war, yet refusing to join it. |

(Eli ) is nuts the United states is nation, and a sovereign nation. I don't no where he gets he information. I think women should have a right of choice, but then you have to figure out what your going to tell God on judgment day, when he ask you why you destroyed the living being inside you. Life begins at conception, if it didn't you wouldn't have a human being. |

It the Republican Party that thinks they decide what a woman can and cannot do with their bodies |

Just because a person is female, what gives them the right to murder. Maybe we should expand this a little and say a woman can kill her child any time she feels like it just because she gave birth to it. American law does not decide that a woman cannot have an abortion, it says that she is not allowed to commit murder. |

Abortion should be a decision made between the woman, her mate, her family and friends, her clergy and her conscience. Government should have NO ROLE in making that decision, except to ensure that if the woman chooses abortion, she is entitled to receive safe, sterile medical treatment.
The only reason abortion, gay marriage and other emotional issues become part of America's legislative process is because those things trigger responses that can be measured - and guaranteed to attract votes. They also serve as a distraction, keeping voters from focusing on real issues that Congress and the administration don't want to do anything about: things like ending an illegal, unconstitutional war in Iraq; prosecuting and jailing corrupt members of Congress and the administration; election fraud; special favors granted to rich corporations, wealthy individuals, lobbyists, or special interest groups that can bring in the votes; eliminating costly bureaucracies that serve no useful purpose and only waste taxpayers' money; saving our fragile ecology and taking care of our environment for future generations; and attending to the needs of the poor, aged, sick, disabled, hungry and helpless in our society.
The Bush administration is rife with avarice, and power-hungry pondscum looking only to enhance their status and wealth. The Republican-led Congress is the most corrupt, evil body ever to occupy the Capitol Buidling.
Watch www.blogger.com for a new, upcoming blog titled BUSHWACKER!
Bush, Cheney and Company should be tried for the same evil atrocities they're accusing Saddam Hussein of perpetrating. If they're convicted, they should face a firing squad. Surely, there's a special oil-saturated corner of Hell in which these truly evil people will spend their eternal damnation. They've encumbered this country with trillions of dollars in debt (which we'll still be paying off generations from now). They have lied to, stolen from, and cheated the American public out of its basic freedoms (we are gradually becoming a police state thanks to George Bush and his inane policies). Bush is a cowboy capitalist who likes to pound on his chest to prove he's a real man. The fact is, he's an impotent, spoiled rich kid who should never have been elected to this land's highest office in the first place. The other, sadder, fact is that there's no one - Democrat or Republican - that's any better. Ross Perot, where are you when we need you so desperately? |

Nobody should be able to tell a woman what she can do with her body! They aren't the ones who will have to carry it, birth it or raise it! |

While we are at it, our country shouldn't stop us from killing our neighbors either. It's a democratic country, murder should be allowed. |

Well look at it this way; most of our law makers here in the United States are males, and white males at that....they seem to be the people who want to dictate what others can do in regards to abortion. In my opinion they are typically your conservative Republicans. Keeping abortion difficult or nearly impossible, and / or completely denying individuals the right to an abortion is just another way of keeping the little man, (or woman) as it may be in this instance, down....... keep the poor...poorer. They use the guise of it being a moral issue; which if true, would make one think these idiots would all go adopt some unwanted children? If they are so concerned with these unborn children, why aren't they donating money to poverty stricken area's? or providing foster care, or promoting the agenda that medical insurance that covers Viagra should damn well cover birth control! |

We are not a democracy, we are a Representative Republic!
And I agree with you. It's their body, it's their life, it's their consequence that they will have to bear, and for a child who is 15 it is too much, and it is their choice until our current 7 out of 9 Republican justices of the supreme court gets a hold of Roe V Wade, and the Republicans are looking for a case.
Ironically many who appose it say it is on moral grounds. The Catholic Church didn't have an issue with it, and when they decided to change their view it was not on a morality basis!!!! |

you are right, but we do live in a country where religion plays a major role in our laws.....like alot of third world countries. |

Why do women think they have a right to terminate a life that has done nothing wrong? How can a woman murder her child? How can one child be a "choice", and nothing more than tissue, while another is one to be loved & cherised? Isn't abortion really just an excuse to murder the child because its an "inconvenience"?
In the end abortion happens because people are irresponsible. Because of that irresponsibility a human life is terminated for the sake of convienence.
Sounds rather selfish to me...
Be sure to tell the child you ALLOW to live that they were loved; their brother/sister weren't...they were "inconvienent"...I'm sure they'll understand... |

Lots of "private" issues are governed by the government. Marital rape is also a private issue, but I presume that you are in favor of legislation against that. The bottom line is if the fetus is be considered a human, abortion is murder and arguments like this one seem pretty ridiculous. ie- you should be able to kill because it is a Private issue. This argument is based on circular logic, ie assuming that a fetus is not a human, people shouldn't legislate on it because it is a private issue. While I could argue this point as well, most people are unwilling to concede the point that a fetus isn't a human, so you aren't addressing the issue at hand. And rhetoric like "isn't this a democratic country" is not helpful to any debate, especially one that has nothing to to with the electoral process.
I lost respect for any person who is in favor of partial birth abortion as they clearly do not care about murder. For years, liberals were saying that viability outside the womb is the yardstick for life, a bit arbitrary, but respectable, then comes partial birth abortion and they are in favor of killing babies that are human by their own admission. Someone care to explain that one to me?
the bottom line is that this is not a discussion about "women's health, privacy, etc." It is a discussion about when life begins, and a little consistency from the left on the topic would be greatly appreciated. |

First I think its wrong to catagorize all americans. I am pro choice, but some people feel that by stopping abortions they are saving the future. This may be true, but I haven't really been able to do the research. |

America is not a nation
America is a continent
America does not have laws to decide this or any other such matter.
It is likely that you mean United Statesians, you should keep in mind that United Statesians are only 30% of Americans. There are 840 million Americans in the world, of those only 280 million are United Statesians.
