Why do license plates expire?

that's a damn good question but they usually don't cost anything?? I thought they just send them to you from the tax office..........

I'm however extremely sick of paying registration fee (the tax sticker) every year

yes, I think I've become a worse driver than when I first got my license tho'...reckless driving, speeding, no signals etc etc etc. but I think everyone changes the way they drive the moment they get their license

Very easy - So the government can charge you to renew them. Yet another tax for us to pay.

License plates do not expire, what expires is your registration.

Just another way to get our money. You would think after buying a car and purchasing a tag and plate that they would leave you alone. But nooooo the government still goes after our money!!!!!!!!!!

They don't in Canada, but, wherever you are, its likely a government's cash cow.

A license plate is merely evidence that the owner has paid the annual tax. It expires because the tax is annual.

It's a means of collecting taxes to continue to maintain the highways. You pay a certain fee each year toward that maintenance.

What if everyone was ask just to "volunteer" to send in some money to build highways? We'd still be riding horses because nobody would fork over the dough.

The main source of funding for roads and highways is your property taxes, tax on gasoline, and the registration and licensing fee we pay each year.

the reason for this is because "Uncle Sam Wants his piece of the pe and the only way to do that is to make rediculous laws and stipulations that we must pay for to make them money

ok so theplate doesnt expire once in a while you hane to get a new one but what expire is registration all that mean is when you drive you keep it updated in the driver system mostly for cops..

because Uncle Same want to make sure you pay your taxes plus $30 on registration fee. If you haven't paid your tax, you can't renew your license plate.

They don't. And if your license expires, you don't have to take a test again...your question is not making much sense. Sorry.
