Could it be because they have a modicum of intelligence and don't need other people to tell them how to think.
I am pro choice as our American cousins put it, but I don't really care one way or the other about whales, seals or trees.
Execution is wrong as that's actually murder.
Abortion, no matter what people think isn't in legal terms.
And if a woman wants an abortion and I'm not the father, it's non of my damned business.

I am pro-choice......I was just going to write an in-depth answer but decided against it and deleted it as your question is contradictory.You can't compare any of your examples.I am for the death penalty in certain cases,I despise cruelty to animals AND children,I do not support terrorists 'rights' and trees are trees.I can't personally see how I am a hypocrite for having the intelligence to see there is a massive difference....and this is where I'll stop and watch all the thumbs down roll in!Just edited to say I don't support abortion over 16 weeks gestation unless it's absolutely necessary.

At what point does an embryo become a human life? If your answer to that question is "at conception", you oppose abortion. If you answer is "sometime after conception", then you don't necessarily oppose all forms of abortion. If your answer is "even before conception" (as many catholics believe), then you oppose not only abortion, but also birth control.

Most people are separated by four basic levels of fetal development: (1) conception, (2) the ability to feel pain and be aware one's surroundings, (3) the ability to be viable outside of the womb, and (4) birth. Very few people believe abortion should be allowed, at least as an elective procedure, right up until birth. And few people who are not religiously motivated believe that abortion is morally wrong before the fetus can feel pain or be aware of its surroundings. Most people fall somewhere in between.

Science does not answer the fundamental question of when life begins, so we can't answer the question logically. We have to turn to religion or philosophy to answer, and that is why we each come up with a different answer.

By the way, speaking of hypocrisy, where are all the people who oppose all killing of all kinds? Shouldn't there be some of those around? To me, supporting capital punishment while opposing abortion rights is just as much hypocrisy as opposing capital punishment while supporting abortion rights.

Nobody is saying convicted killers have more rights than an unborn child. But you don't have to look very far to see miscarriages of justice . Every person deserves a right to life.
I have never had an abortion and I wouldn't choose to have one, but I have known friends who were in such a desperate state, that they felt it was their only option. I never agreed with them, but it was their choice, and after all, what gives me the right to tell someone else what they should or should not do.
Last time I checked I wasn't God....

1) the not yet born have all the protection the person who is going to grow them is willing to give them. I do not necessarily support abortion. But I do support safe ones for the womn who decides that now is possibly the worst time in her life to be nurturing a child.

2) Killing endangered "living" animals for a fist full of dollars is a little despicable. Why not just hire onto a fishing boat in Alaska and do real work?

May be hypocritical, but humans have the right to their choices when faced with moral dilemmas.

I used to have a pretty Liberal attitude towards abortion and i was totally for it, afterall it seemed to be simply a matter of freedom to perform an action you should be able to choose to perform..............right?

Wrong, and my attitude changed after meeting my current girlfriend who is against it and told me more about it. Shes even against the morning after pill and i don't blame her (and support her fully in these views). Aborting a human life isn't something you can make an easy choice on, and its a very complex issue. The process itself is often barbaric.

Having said that, i'm not against it - its personal choice, i just think people (especially young mothers) should think about it a little, learn about it and its after effects because there are many.

i think this issue gets picked up by the right wing, "freedom of choice" morons who pretend to be Liberals to make themselves feel better ;-)

it simply boils down to one thing, it's an attack on god and rightousness! these people attack the unborn child because they know that in god's eyes children are prized and valuable posession,their a gift from god! it's not about personal freedom or rigrts, abortion is simply murder and they know it, it is no less murder to kill an unborn child then it is to kill a grown adult regardless of their stature in life!
