Why do people go against China's One Child policy?

There is a strong tradition in China of wanting to have a male child. Since about 52% of all babies born are girls, people often abandon them to try to have a boy or they have one anyway. Also, farmers want to have more than 1 child to help them on their farm.

People are against this policy because its a country placing limitations on families on how many children they are allowed to have and if they have more than one they have to pay a fee. This is why there are so many Chinese children up for adoption, this is there way of population control. Unfortunately for China it is slowly back firing on them, since boys are more favorable to have then girls because the males carry on the family name they are having a hard time finding female partners.

I think that a part of it is the fundamental human instinct to create a tribe around themselves. One child is no guarantee of being looked after in your old age.

And as with any culture, within that culture there are bound to be people who beleive that a child is more rounded and loved when they have a sibling.

I've talked to people from China. They don't say this, but in my opinion, it has destroyed China.

China was, and still is, a very family oriented country. They dote on their children. The one child policy was very difficult for them. There is also a traditional value in China to take care of their elderly, which are increasingly a burden on society.

Now for the harm. China has a aging population. You think the social security system in America is having problems, think of China. It's over-60 population is 10% of the country, increasing at 3.2% per year, and by 2050 will reach 25% of the population in China http://www.globalaging.org/elderrights/world/fast.htm

the one child policy is enforced in larger communities. In rural farmlands the one child policy is not enforced because farmers need more help to exist

because they want more children, the answer is because they are not supposed to use protection either, i have a friend who lives in china, i met her through the net, and she told me about this a few weeks ago, and yes sometimes they are told to abort, if it is a girl, till they get a boy, when a chinese family has more than one child they lose all the financial help off the government, even for the first child too, having more than one child means they get no child benefit at all.

It's primarily because in the Western nations, that sort of policy is considered unacceptable governmental interference in the rights of citizens. It is true that in the past many in China engaged in female infanticide, but that happens far less often today than most Western propagandists would have you believe.

It is nothing to do with God or family names. The problem is that

1) baby-girls are often aborted (due to traditional preference to boys) or even killed. Baby-boys are abducted from their parent and sold.

2) If a child is born without a license (i.e. if the parents aren't married) they have to pay a hefty fine, otherwise the child becomes a "nobody", she doesn't get a birth certificate, she cannot go to school or work legally - it is like the child does no exist. No wonder most of them are sold to rich childless parents in most cases.

3) Since there are 60 million more males than females in China, the remaining girls are often abducted from their homes and sold on "bride markets"

These are the tree major problems I have with the the China's one-child policy. It was such a daft way of dealing with their population problem!

it is a totally inhumanity. If some one lost or missed his/her one child ,he/she will not be allowed to give birth 2nd child.is it not a violation to human right ?
