Why do people have a RIGHT to healthcare?
|
I have a RIGHT to free speach.. but that does not require anyone to GIVE me anything. I have a right to bear arms, but again, that's my own right, i can choose to not bear them if I so please. Why do some think that everyone has a RIGHT to healthcare?
I think charity is very noble. Someone who takes money from their OWN pocket and gives to the needy is a noble person. Someone who takes money from someone else's pocket to give to the needy is a scoundrel. Isn't that, in short, what the US social policy is doing since they are taking money out of my pocket to help the needy without my consent? (eg. welfare, food stamps, aid programs, medicare... AD NAUSEUM) Additional Details as usual, i get a bunch of answers but no one is REALLY answering my question.... I'm asking WHY do you think people hav ethe RIGHT to healthcare? Don't just tell me that you think people DO have the right... but WHY do you think that way? Read the question, people.

You've got it exactly right. Income Redistribution is stealing. There is no right to health care.
The government only has legitimate power to do what people are allowed to do to others. The government can arrest a criminal because people have a right to self defense. That's about all a government has the right to do, though.
Any government beyond defense is illegal and illegitimate and nothing more than theft. Obviously, victimless crime laws and prosecutions without the victim's consent are immoral and wrong.
Besides that, taxes which tax the wealthy at higher rates are immoral. Liberals refer to these as Progressive Taxes. A better name would be Immoral Taxes or Cronyist Taxes. The same percentage of tax should be charged to all. If that means that the government has to shut programs because the poor can't afford taxes, that's a good thing.
Welfare, like all other Socialist Economic Policies rewards lazyness and punishes hard work. That's why the Soviet Union collapsed. If everybody is paid the same amount of money, no matter what job, no matter if they work, anybody with any sense whatsoever will not work and just take the government's money. That's why the Pilgrims, when they tried Socialism early on in Plymouth's history, almost died out. Socialism does not work and is immoral because it is theft.
Did you know that the UN guarantees a right to compulsory education? How can being forced to go to school against your will be a right? Obviously it isn't and the UN is a fraudulent organization. |

Wow.
Normally I would have agreed with you, but knowing that my friend's husband has to pay over $400 per month for family insurance out of his check! Many companies choose to gouge their employees for their health insurance, and it isn't even worth a darn. And these are the ones that can afford it!
Honey, so many people work their butts off, and are raped for their health insurance premiums - which they have to pay on top of all their other living expenses - and then turn around and pay outlandish deductables before the insurance even begins to do anything for their bottom line!
To really explain that, before I was married, I had to pay for my health insurance $90.00 per month. Now, this was from a rather notable insurance company, and the rate was low for the month. But wanna know my deductable? $5,000.00 before it paid 70 % of the bills. So I had to accumulate $5,000.00 in medical bills BEFORE they would "help" me pay anything. And to put that into perspective, it didn't cost that much when I went into the hospital to have my daughter! That cost around $3,500 after all was said and done. And they didn't cover any of the prescriptions I had to get. One of the prescriptions cost over $100.00 per month, and that was the GENERIC form of the medication.
So imagine, if you will, earning minimum wage, and trying to pay your rent, car payment, electric bill and buy food to survive. . . I think if the government doesn't step in and do something, the insurance companies are going to succeed in eliminating the poor and middle class because they will die off due to not being able to afford to go to the doctor. |

It would appear that people (including illegal aliens) have a right to FREE health care because our benevolent government mandates that any hospital with an emergency facility cannot turn away anyone who shows up for treatment. It's called "The Federal Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act."
While the intentions are admirable, the results have been disastrous. The illegal aliens are using this law to provide themselves with their primary care to the tune of $165 Million in Florida, $330 Million in Texas, $350 Million in California and in Cochise County alone in Arizona, the Health Department has estimated that 1 in 3 people seeking medical attention in the emergency rooms are illegal aliens and it accounts for over 30% of their annual budget.
How's your pockets feel now? I thought so - mine, too. |

Fifty yers ago the US budget was devoted 22% to social programs (welfare, Medicare, Medicaid and SS). Today, that number has grown to an incredible 60%. This year I paid in taxes alone nearly 3 times what my total income was 30 years ago. Something is grossly wrong with this picture. Time to give a hand up and not a hand out. |

I think our social programs are out of control and are creating generations of citizens that don't want to work and feel that the government owes them something. That being said, a country as wealthy as ours, that can send billions and trillions of dollars overseas to help other countries with their social ills, should be able to provide decent, reasonably priced health care for all of its citizens. No one should have to suffer with a disease or illness that a trip to the doctors would cure. Our health care system has become bloated with bureaucrats and people that are making money off of those least able to afford it. Granted, some people, through no fault of theirs, cannot work because of physical or mental disabilities. Do we just throw them out on the street and let them fend for themselves or do we help them out. What bothers me most about our social welfare system is that able bodied people are collecting money from the government and are given no incentive to work and get off of assistance. Those are the people that should not be collecting welfare. The people that need it most are our helpless, the people that have a serious disability or mental illness. |

Bc we are our brothers keepers. However, to look at it from another view... Who wants our streets and workplaces lined with sick and dying people with swollen bellies and flies on their eyes simply bc they cannot afford healthcare.. Really, it's a win/win. Now if they could cut out all the kickbacks and frivilous spending, we'd be set. |

You have Health care, but you have a choice to except it. There are many great things in this life that you can have if only you except them. Must I say more? |

Right so what your sayinb is that should you wind up on the street we the tax payers shouldn't help you.
EVERYONE has a right to basic services because they are a NECCESSARY part of our life. Just because someone is unfortunate doesn't mean they aren't worth looking after. The reason I think it is taken out of government taxes is because that way EVERYONE has to contribute which stops others from thinking they are bnetter than the rest of the population becuae they donated. I'm quite happy with the way it works in my country. |

Because is derived from the right to LIVE, if you don't have right to health care then your life is at risk. That happens in many 3rd world countries, where even if you pay for the social security the state don't guarantee an appropriate medical care or any. That means that people die in front the hospital because lack of attention even if it's an urgency or if they are part of the social security network. Medical care is expensive, very expensive, that's why you contribute to the system even if you're healthy. Maybe what you got to change is how the system works, I think is not one of the best, ¿How do the Scandinavians? ¿the Spaniards? ¿the Canadians? |

I concur. No one has a right to take anothers money by force and the government does that all the time. Everyone is welcome to give money via charity and frankly that is a good thing.
Another thing I have noticed oftentimes is those that trumpet social programs, how important they are, and that everyone should be taken care of oftentimes give very little to charity not counting their taxes. |

I believe in a utilitarianism point of view the greatest good for the greatest amount of people, so keeping people healthy would do that. |

I've been there. Without medical in any shape or form. I was 5 months pregnant and my Mother became ill and we were forced to move far (Hawaii to Georgia). We found out that the industry my husband works in rarely gives medical in Georgia, so we were completely without. I applied for aid for my 3 year old daughter and myself and got it. I am not ashamed. I do not feel like I took money out of anyone's pocket. The system was set up for people to use when in need. I have worked since I was 15 and same with my husband. This was the first time either of us asked for help. I was scared. Obviously, there are people who abuse the system. There are people who abuse EVERYTHING. I don't feel like that's any reason to cancel the program. I'd like to know what you would suggest we should have done. You must think we should have paid for everything. Do you feel like I am a lazy needy person just out to spend your money?
The way I often think about situations like this is this. Right now, I don't have a lot of extra money, but I have time. So I give that. I volunteer at my church and I help my Mother. Someday, I will have money, and I will give that where it's needed. I consider myself a giver, but sometimes, when you need it, it's OK to take a little. Obviously, you are not one of the noble, giving types or you would understand. Good luck to you. |

So, you get hit by a car.. have no identification on you when the ambulance gets you to the hospital.
Surgeon looks at the nurse and says, This person has no right to health care, roll this mangled mess out to the street and let it die.
Just like all of us, you do have the right to health care. |

Other than immediate emergency assistance, they should NOT have a right to health care. |

Everybody has a right to healthcare but only those who are qualified must be given. Members must have the priority to the healthcare program and not the illegals. |

Healthcare should be a right because #1 reason is that it concerns an individual's pursuit of happiness. And, Healthcare should not be in the hands of only a privileged few who can afford it. Just like Free Speech as a right promotes an open society, a healthy democracy, and individualism, Healthcare as a right promotes a healthy society as a preventative measure, a healthy individual and allows people the right to stay healthy whether they can afford it or not. No one should have to rely on cherity for health because it effects us all. If You don't provide that person/individual who has a strong and virulent strain of T.B, West Nile virus, or Bird Flu with health care, you put the entire population at risk which is much more expensive in so many more ways than universal health care would ever be. |

I can't give you a reason WHY anyone has a right to health care either. The reason I can't is because I don't believe health care is a RIGHT. If I can't buy my own health care, that's MY problem, not yours or the government's. I don't have a right to food either, but I would die even sooner without it.
An earlier answer said "Other than immediate emergency assistance, they should NOT have a right to health care." I disagree. Why is 'emergency assistance' a RIGHT? |

One your totally ignorant. Two you better hope nothing ever happens to you. There are people out there disabled and they need help. There are people who have worked there whole life and not too old to work. There are people who have had there house burnt down or laid off and need help. I guess you are lucky to have such a fortunate life but the truth is people need help. And with the cost of health care now days it is almost impossible for some people to get to a doctor. I dont think my money needs to go to soldiers who fight for something i dont support...or cops that do nothing but write speeding tickets but I don't complain about it. One day you or someone in your family will need help and maybe you will understand but until then enjoy living in ignorance. |

I do not think people have a RIGHT to healthcare. I think people only have a RIGHT to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; the rights spelled out in the constitution.
However, we as a people have chosen to enact and fund government programs. It is our elected officials that vote on the policies of the welfare system. It is our responsibility to follow what our representatives in both state and federal government are doing: what votes are coming up, and what are their positions and voting records.
Laws and regulations are passed, and can be revoked. Social programs have to be reauthorized and funded to continue.
When we, as a people, chose to fund government programs, then applicants have a right to be treated fairly with the same rules and regulations of eligibility for all.
If you do not approve of the programs, e-mail your elected government officials. Tell your family and friends to e-mail them.
Use your vote for change. |

No people don't have a right to health care. If you can afford it you should get it. Having a car makes live better to. Whats next everyone have a right to a new vehicle? If insurance Co. didn't charge so much and if malpractice attorneys were put on a leash more people could afford to see a doc. when they are sick. |
