Why should the British people grow a spine if they want their MPs do do all of the work? Passing more laws (i.e., what you call "stricter laws") doesn't do a thing except make somethng "more illegal." (An oxymoron.) Criminals be definition don't obey the laws. More laws won't make them change their minds. |

Unfortunately we seem to be living in a country that put's the criminals well being and ' Human rights' before that of the victim or their family. I say if they commit a crime that takes away the human rights of another then they should automatically forfeit their human rights. I don't believe in capital punishment but i do believe hard labour, army and real prisons ( i.e ones without nice bed's, 3 square meals, sky tv etc) |

Because we are a nation of talkers, not doers.
People spout off & rant about what they want to happen, but when it comes down to it, they can't be bothered to put their coats & shoes on & go out in the rain !
Shame, really. I fancy a good old fashioned riot. |

Because Britain has become a left wing society in the main. We are complacent and have been convinced that we should be ashamed to be right wing. Well I am just right of Attila the Hun and would deal with the damned lot in a decisive way if I had any power. I am too old to riot. |

it is not the government's problem. it is our problem. those scumbags had parents, they had "friends", maybe even girls that gave them the time of day. the decent majority need to deal with the loutish minority, make them outcasts but come down on them like a ton of bricks when they transgress |

The answer is simple but long. The govt. is no longer and hasn't been for a while now( 10-15 years ) there to protect this once great nation. The govt. has become a select group of self centred profit orienteered group. The people of Britain have been on the long slide to oblivian since the creation of the hand-out, sorry that is welfare state. Afterall why work when the govt. gives you money not to work, more money if you are not married, sorry about the rant. But even the youth of Britain have been subverted by American drug/gangster life via TV radio and cinema. The youth has had its cultural identity robbed. No heroes but multi millionaire sportsmen,Theives, and other neredowells. This country was once great but it has lost the vitallity of life. Even the news ( papers , radio, internet rarely report good or great deeds , mostly death, disaster, One would assume to make sales. |

All these things your saying sound good until one of your own does something wrong, but then you'll be middle class and can afford a good lawyer so your child will get off.
If you where in the Army and were fighting for your life would you prefer to have the support of someone who joined because they wanted to, or some scub bag thrown into the Army...
If I remember John Major and the Conservatives took up this nettle in the 1990' with Back to Basics', look where they ended up, Mistresses, corruption, insider trading, bribes.....yes heard this all before |

I think there are a few reasons. Firstly, people here only really care about something when it directly affects them personally, otherwise they keep their heads down. Also we know that if we confront thugs we will be the ones facing court, not them. This is because the police, lawyers & judges need criminals more than they need law abiding citizens - no criminals = no work for those in the legal system. Just like we have a binge drinking culture not seen in other countries like France, we also have a 'doff your cap to authority and the law' mentality which means we never take to the streets (unlike the French who have a history of doing so). Finally we have the 'Blitz spirit' - a tradition of 'putting up with it', whatever 'it' is. Add that all up and you get a spineless, apathetic population which just puts up with being pushed around. |

Increase the age limit for alcohol, how when the current laws are so hard to enforce, maybe a drinks police.
The last thing the military want are conscripts, there is no place for them in today's army. The modern army are highly trained and do a lot more than just kill people..
Bring back hanging, oh dear, Lets join those really good countries which still have the death penalty Yemen, Zimbabwe, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya amongst others, I am sure you would love to live in one of these countries. We must not forget the USA where It is proved that the death penalty does not deter criminals and where Innocent people are regularly put to death.
It is so easy to rant and use these tired out and failed answers to societies problems, the real solutions take so much more time, effort and money to solve. |

totaly agree with you
about 2 years ago my parents (in there 60s) who spent all the money they had in there home got new windows put in, bay windows and they looked really good
about 2 weeks later a bunch of wee neds were throwing snowballs with stones at the windows and my parents are in bad health as it is (expecially my mum with nerves)
so i phoned the police and they said they could do nothing so i chased them away and then they came back with more this time
anyway they broke 2 windows and i managed to chase on and kicked him in the ar$e
long story shory, i got £50 fine and he got jack - although for £50 i wouldnt mind kicking him again
also just to let people know breaking a window is not a crime its an incident - a new way of cutting down crime figures - who the hell voted in labour anyway |

I don't believe in death penalty as I feel 2 wrongs don't make a right and it is not good example to set. I do think laws should be stricter. I think age limit for alcohol should be raised to 21 and it should be made law that people stay in education until they are 18. |

'force the government to do what you all want'
That's rather naive: everyone has different desires. Why should we lower the age for ppl to drink? You can buy cigarettes at 16 which is far worse than a glass of wine or a 'night out'. Hanging should be brought back too? You are effectively asking for a totalitarian regime which will make everyone miserable and achieve nothing. Do you honestly think hanging will stop crime? No, it will most likely make criminals more ruthless, to avoid capture.
EDIT: Bystander is a fool. Suppose you went and bought a knife in Kitchens. Shall we pop you in jail? It's just another example of totalitarianism. Only when a device is clearly a weapon or is being utilised (or about to be utilised) as a weapon should punishment come into effect. |
