Why do we have a trade embargo with Cuba, and not China???

Good point! China is a major threat that people don't realize since they are blinded by the profit-making-motive.

I'd visit Taiwan and spend my hard-earned money there before I'd EVER travel to Communist China to support the evil regime there.

We ought to do SOMETHING to normalize relations with Cuba. My God, we did so with Vietnam (also communist) so why can't we let freedom and liberty florish in Cuba, only 90 miles away?

We don't have a trade embargo on China because we get cheap stuff from China while with Cuba we kinda have to apease the Cubas that moved here and hate Castro (ie the Cubans dancing in the street when Castro looked to be dying).

Because China is a HUGE market for the US. They can't declare an embargo because so many US businesses want to deal with China and make money there. Sell a dollar's worth to a billion people and you already have sales of a billion dollars. Imagine the possibilities!

USA was the first country to recognize the Cuban Communist Government. USA tried to build good relations with Communist Cuba, but it was Cuba and Fidel Castro who drove all American products and companies out of Cuba. The trade embargo against Cuba is Cuba's fault they refused USA to do trade. China on the other hand welcomes American Trade. That is why China has no trade embargo.

trade embargo has nothing to do with Communism as such. USA had trade embargo with South Africa for apartheid reasons with no communism involved.

We don't need anything from Cuba and China is willing to work with us for what we want from them. Just as long as we keep our nose out the their business they will sale to us. Just wait until Castro is gone we will take over that island too.

Unfortunately, there are multinationals who have a stake in China and most of these multinationals are either European or American. Just to make things simple, the U.S. economy "needs" the support of continued investments from the NIEs (Newly Industrialized Economies) which does include China. If they were to place an Embargo on China the U.S. would risk alienating some of the other NIEs.

Cuba kicked the U.S. corporations out because they were starting to influence the government which is what is happening today in the U.S. Many in history have warned us about power of corporations and religion over the people.

The Mafia and large American companies kept a stranglehold on Cuba and supported the corrupt regime of Battista for years. This country tried to overthrow Castro with the Bay of Pigs when the communist threat was ingrained in all of us then. Well..now we know better. Do I think we should have trade and open up relations with Cuba? You're damn right I do. The Cubans don't want us there. they don't want us meddling in their affairs. can't say I blame them. The Cubans here in this counrty want Castro out. I say leave him be.
You want a real mojito and to sit on a beach? Go to Miami. You can get the very same thing there and still not have to worry about all the electricity on your side of the city being shut down after 4 hours because there isn't enough coal and oil to fuel the power plants.

Walmart buys all of it's products from China, so they were put on the Preferred nations list. The opposite is true of Cuba, who we helped Castro take over!

It's all about the Benjamins.Cuba never really had an economic impact on our country,so an embargo against them is no big deal to us.China however.....we have too many dollars tied up with them.They hold billions of our dollars.If they wanted to ruin us all they would have to do is dump those dollars on the world market.Next thing you know our economy is in the crapper.Best not to make them angry.But we would have to really p*ss them off before they did that.Their economy is highly influenced by the strength of our dollar.Our economies (USA & China) are too tightly involved with one another to be making such decisions lightly.

that is a good question. I am Korean and I think its horrible that America trades with China. The reason is that North Korea sends some of their products to China to be sold in America and they appear to say made in china. How else do you think they get money with the sanctions on them or they print lots of fake money and gives it to china to use throughout the world. 99.9 of the time the money really is hard to know if it is real or not. Countries like Libya do not check.
