Because we are law abiding citizens and realize the importance of obeying the rules. Besides, if you ran that light, and a car that you didn't see was there, it would be your fault, you would be held liable, get your insurance cancelled, and perhaps lose your house in the lawsuit. Isn't it just easier to stop for the light? |

?

Cuz the police are hidin' in the bushes. |

Traffic lights are one of those things that define a society as advanced; not because the lights are installed but because people obey the lights. Obeying the lights means obeying the laws of the land. that makes us a civilised society. |

Because it's the law to stop at traffic lights and signs. Just because you think no one is around doesn't mean that Officer Friendly isn't sitting behind a billboard, bush or the next curve waiting to ticket you. Better safe than sorry ! Especially in those remote little towns you think noone's around . |

Because, you silly s*d, Traffic lights are now fitted with cameras - go through a 'red' light and your 'nicked'. |

azaa

because everyone is scared of breaking the law so obviously. |

rrrraaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

you need to draw the line somewhere else its difficult to draw boundaries ALTHOUGH you can drive through a red light on a temporary set of traffic lights if there is noone in sight |

its called the law |

Habit, but I must say that if I think about it I drive on. |

cause Bill Janklow might be coming down the highway and he wont be stopping?
or even Laura Bush for that matter |

First its illegal to go through them. Second if you had and accident you would be in the wrong. I drive a response vehicle and I cannot go through red lights. If I do its on my head. |

conditioning why do we treat the yellow line as a brick wall. |
|

Social conditioning. Obeying the law. The inability to decide for ourselves if it is safe to enter an intersection as we are so used to others thinking for us. Damn the man! |

we just do. |

Because one day you wil do it and you will not have seen the other car or cyclist which is on its way through. |

Because it may not be deserted. One of my friends thought that until he got hit by another car. They were drag racing and blew through the stop sign as he started to cross. |

cause cops hide on roads like that just to catch people who dont stop! |

Now......red light cameras. Fear of getting a ticket, or just because its the right thing to do because its the law. |

best to sit tight no doubt there is a camera about that you cant see but it can see you |

Out of habit mostly but probably out of fear deep down, better safe than sorry. |

That very thing happened to me, and I waited and the blooming thing wasnt changing and wasnt changing, so I drove through the red light and there was no police waiting to catch me! Sometimes if it's safe then why not. For UK readers, do you know, the American traffic lights at, T-junctions or crossroads, often times show a sign which allows you to turn right on red, (the equivalent of turning left on red in UK) which makes perfect sense if your way is clear. |

if you were being followed and in danger, you may run over red lights (safely) and hope to be pulled over by police and you can tell him your predicament. |

Because it's the law and could have dangerous consequences! Someone did that to me and nearly crashed into me last year! Some traffic lights have cameras on as well! It's just not worth it! |

coz its the right thing to do |

The police might be just waiting for you to do that and as trivial as it is they seem to have time to do a thing like that instead of getting after the young vandals who smash up everything in the parks at night and police say its got nothing to do with them***WHY? |

I sometimes jump the lights if it is a road like you say but sometimes I wonder if there is tiny hiden cameras watching our every move,so on occasion I do stop. |

There is always some idiot driving at high speed. Also I have witnessed many an immortal being driving at high speed at night without lights.
Best of luck when you decide not to wait. See you in the next life maybe. |

It's called road discipline. |

I always jump red lights when its safe, if the traffic lights are too stupid to react quick enough, i don't see why i should have to wait. |

If I know the road, or know there are no cameras.
And I can see fully there is no danger to me or others.
Fcuk em, I carry on.
And the chances of a copper hiding in the bushes, in England?
You got more chance of running down Santa. |

Who says we all just stop and wait?
I have often just driven through red lights that serve no sensible purpose. |
