mainly because people are so wrapped up in their own lives and consider what they are doing so important that they fool themselves into thinking what they are doing is justified. |

Because the punishment is soooo Lame !!! |

because some people believe (rightly or wrongly) that the law is there to cause hinderance in their lives.
It also depends on what laws are being broken, where i live there in a by-law that states i can't graze my goat in a local park. especially relevent as i live in a high rise in the middle of a city. I've thought about getting a goat just to see if this law would be enforced! |

Some laws are starting to go to far defining what freedoms other think you should have. |

If something is forbidden or there boundaries, it's human nature to be tempted to do the opposite and disobey. |

Because half the time the general public are unaware of all the laws that exsist! That gives government and the police to full advantage to line their own pockets, thats except for scumbags such as murderers, theives, rapists etc who deserve alot more than they get these days |

There are many reasons. One is that they have no respect for the law (as in the case of Illegals) and others do it for the rush they get. |

For small infractions, like speeding, I think it is a matter of convenience and probability of not getting caught. For the hard stuff I think it is greed and mental illness. |

Because punishment isn't tough enough ... I think if we went back to the days of "an eye for an eye" crime would be on the downslide...
Losing a hand for theft? wow |

Selfishness; envy; dissatisfaction with their wretched lot, an inability to pin blame for their lousy lives upon themselves.
There's sometimes an element of peer pressure involved, also, forcing innocent children into doing the sort of things they'll regret for the rest of their lives. Once they start their criminal lives and get tempted to do more, there's no stopping them, and nobody to pull them out of hell.
And then there are some who believe that the Law is right; the Law is just; but it only applies to /others/. Not to themselves, because for whatever reason, /they/ have been brought up right, and the others, that crowd from next door, are tramps and scum.
To these people, their neighbour isn't theirs - their neighbour is the neighbour of the chap two doors down. Nothing to do with /them/ at all.
Finally, there is of course the Bandwagon. Some politician reads the newspapers, sees an outrage in the headlines, and presses for the Government to Do Something. So The Government Does Something, and suddenly there's an absurd new law, and the newspaper proprietor, a Charles Foster Kane wannabe, sits back and chuckles at his successful experiment in social engineering.
There are many reasons why people break the law, in truth. But they all stem from one simple observation: that many people are just plain horrible. |

Self justification.
-If your speeding at 3.00am there will be less traffic and pedestrians on the road so the speed limit ‘should’ be higher to account for the lower risks involved.
-If I was 20yrs old, has smoked since I was 16 and been drinking since 18, why should I not be allowed to smoke or drink when I go on holiday to the US? |

Most people way up the cost of getting caught, against the benefit of committing the crime. In our far too lenient society, there is often a perception of the crime being more favourable than its legal option; and worth the potential penalty. |

Some laws are so stupid they should be ignored. The big stuff tho - I dunno, they're freaks? |

Because they believe there is a subsection with a clause with some fine print that names them as being specifically exempt from said law. This is very common with traffic laws. stop signs, for example, are meant for "other people". So these special people just go tearing through town, and what appears to some as a "breaking of the law" is really just a specific person exercising their privileges. Those who get in the way of these people are the real criminals. |

Cause it isn't practical. I think the most common law broken is speeding on the higway.....hell I broke that law this morning getting to the ariport.....so way do we speed......because we just go at the pace of everyone else. If that is the pace of traffic then that should be the speed limit. Whether its 65 or 85...... |

the laws are not always fair. And some people are stupid. Other reasons are people got to do what the got to do even if that means breaking the law. |

I think Laws were meant to be broken, otherwise they wouldn't make them. I think they don't obey them because of ingnorance and stupidity. |

Because there are so many of them, and a lot of them are against human nature. It's fun to speed, it's easier to steal, and who doesn't want to jump on a hotty's *** on the jogging trail? |
