THE political scientist man

What do you mean why? It is called American Government 101. State and Federal government are two different things and states have their separate laws which their legislature creates. Basically any law can be created by a state as long it abides by the constitution, S.C. rulings and the amendments.
The basic answers is that California is the most liberal state in our country and that is why they allow for gays to marry.
Marriage: The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife( acc. Answers.com). It is also funny that marriage was an institution created by religion. The religion that created it doesn't believe in gay marriage...so why should gays be allowed to practice in something that was created by an institution that doesn't believe in it? I'm all about them having the same legal rights, just don't call it marriage. |

It's a law left for each state, not a federal law. |

Gay marriage is legal in Massachusetts, too. Most states are not as progressive. |

Some states are slower than others. Eventually the majority of the states or all will legalize it. Its not gonna go away so why the hell not? |

California is more politically liberal than other states. |

Gays should enjoy the same rights as the rest of us |

Each state is allowed to make their own determination regarding marriage. In most states the issue has not been challenged to the Supreme Court of the state. In California, it was. Each state has their own constitution. In California the state constitution prohibits gender-based discrimination and uneven application of state rights.
The decisions made in one state do not automatically affect the law in other states. each state is granted a certain degree of sovereignty providing they adhere to federal laws and the federal constitution. |

California (and Massachusetts) have more progressive voters than other states. For example, in California many residents voted in favor of instant runoff voting, a ranked choice method of voting advocated by Progressives. |

The people of California believe in individual freedom, that is until you begin talking about money. Your money is their money to spend on all the idealist social policies they want. |

I don't get in on that stuff....to me it is fornication and not right in the eyes of God, however, I am open minded enough to know it is none of my business what other people do as long as they leave me along with it....they can marry as many as they want as far as I'm I am concerned and in any state they want to do it is their business too. My God tells me I must live
in the world but I don't have to be of the world..in other words,
do what they do...I have no power to judge what they do, this
is the reason God says, "Vengence is Mine" |

Gay marriage has been legalized in some other states... in certain states, however, the government has taken it upon themselves to re-define marriage, and modify state regulations to discriminate against others.
California is precedentedly one of the most liberal states -- they are, by far, ahead of the central and Midwest states.
Anticipate a trickle-down effect. Majority tyranny is nearing an end (at least with regard to equality for gays). |

California has always had a very Liberal court. It's not the first time they've gone against the voters and the Law. |

Because of Reagan and now McCain, divorce is never any concern to anybody. Even today's Fundies accept divorce. In the 1950s there was a big struggle about if a divorce is granted in Nevada, is that divorce for real on the East Coast. Of course that divorce is.
Same thing with Gay Unions. |

Progressive is what liberals now call themselves.
Many states including CA the people have said no, the liberal judges who CAN NOT MAKE LAW have overruled the people.
It will be over turned again. |

I am very happy that my brother-in-law and his partner of 19 years were finally able to stand before a justice and vow to honor and cherish each other for the rest of their lives and that my husband and I were able to witness the event.
Many other states will come around as Massachusetts and California have done. |

to give Cali another source of revenue, if thier one of the only states that allow it then all gays will come there to get married, they will have to pay the fees for the marriage. So there for Cali gets a whole new source of revenue. And thats a very good reason to do anything MONEY! |
