wants a monopoly on certian "drugs". Prohibition is about
control plain and simple. Look up the definition of a "Police
State" you will find it is vague and not precise. An exact definition would be: the country that has the most people in prison for crimes against the "state" we all know the USA
has the most people in Prison(%90 are in not for crimes against another person but for "drugs" which is a crime against the government or state). Also the USA spends the
most money on law enforcement and "Drug control" which is
a tell tale sign of a Police State! The truth will set you free!

The alcohol and tobacco companies and their lobbies make a lot of political donations. And they don't want competition from other drugs.
There isn't really a marijuana lobby.

you make a good point. Although govt does not do anything about alcohol and tobacco, they try limiting it for you. as for drugs, just one might make you lose control while it takes a lot longer for drinking to mess you up. Drugs depending on what kind go straight to the brain which cause hallucinations that are precarious to the consumers and the surrounding. Take it with moderation |

Because look at the cost of rehab and most of it funded by the government. You would be surprised by the number of people brought to their knees by just weed, and in rehab for that reason alone. Drugs cause health problems which cause financial losses to the government since they pay for a good portion of rehab. There's your answer. |

though alcohol and tobacco are illegal it doesn't mean that other drugs are good for the human body....the governent simply care because drugs can lead you to do alot of bad things that you can't think of doing them when you're not drugs. Drugs can even make you commit suicide,kill some innocent people and do alot of bad stuff............. so if your are on drugs or planning to take some please don't even think of it or touch it,it's one of the World's worst things.....TAKE CARE MATE! |

The big reason for tobacco and alcohol being legal, and the other things not being legal, is the fact that more people smoke and drink, than do drugs. So, more people vote to legalize or keep legal the things that they do. Take note of the politicians who think that these things should be legal, and vote for or against them. If the government didn't have to take care of said person's "body", and take care of all the other people, and items affected by said person while being on "hippie"drugs, the govt wouldn't give a hoot about what you do to yourself, your family, your friends.... |

There is a HUGE difference between cannabis (marijuana) and alcohol. Alcohol can make you dizzy for a few hours if you drink a lot, but after a few hours your head is clear again and you can work, drive safely and be productive. On the other hand marijuana stays in your body for 30 days, yes, 30 days. When you have it in your body you become a very slow thinker and a very dangerous driver. With a slow brain you cannot be productive and good thinker at school or at work. No one wants to be killed in an automobile accident by a slow thinking and slow reacting driver. Also, no employer wants a slow unproductive employee. But if you are an old man or an old woman who has retired and who does not work and does not drive, have all the pot in the world. Also, if you are dying with cancer and you have a terrible pain and you don't work and you don't drive, have lots of pot. Buttomline, we civilized and knowledgeable people know that a person who smokes weed can put our lives in danger by his slooooow reactions when he drives and we deserve better. So, if a person is of productive age and healthy, he/she should stay away from substances that make him/her slow and dangerous. As for tobacco, it ruins your health, but it does not affect your judgment when you drive. Tobacco use is a method of slow suicide. |

Because it costs the government and therefore tax payers money...because people on drugs normally don't work - therefore need to pay welfare. People on drugs usually commit crimes and therefore that affects others and then costs people money to keep you in jail. And because when you get sick and/or OD it costs people money to pay for your healthcare! |

Putting drugs in your body is very dangerouse. Not only to yo but to the people around you. People do crazy things when on drugs and put other people's lives in danger. The government's job is to protect you so that you can live free of the danger of a person in a drug induced rage or dream coming and shooting you or something. Now yo might argue (and u do) that alcohol and tobacco are drugs. So is coffee. However alcohol is not usually addicting. It can be very much so yet not nearly as often as things such as cannibus or others like lsd or pcp or cocaine. Many more people get addicted and get out of hand with drugs like cocaine and weed and stuff than with alcohol. Also, tobacco is addicting - very highly at that - yet it does not exactly alter your state of mind very much - no more than say coffee - it might make you more relaxed or very jittery - yet ive never heard of a person going on a tobacco induced killing spree. This is why the governemtn feels that it can trust its population with drugs such as alcohol and tobacco and coffee at that rate more than it can with drugs such as cannibis or cocaine or meth. And frankly im glad it's not legal because that protects ME.
And remember - drugs not only affect your life but the lives of those who love you and all of those around you!

It's not that they care, it's that they want to control and/or tax anything we injest. Especially what they consider 'unsavory'. Look at all the additional taxes they impose on cigarrettes. They claim that anyone on drugs is a danger to others. However, the same goes for drunkards. No sense at all! |

They dont want other drugs that are not made in the U.S. coming into our country because the money that people pay for drugs is not going to the government and it will never go to the government because some drugs cant be grown in the U.S. So in reality they really dont care about what drugs you consume its the fact they are not getting their share of money, thats what they really care about. |
