Why don't Americans think about the food they eat?

You COMPLETELY miss the point of species survival. Humans have elevated their technological prowess to a point where food can be grown to sustain a world population of billions. Some live in areas where food growth is not sustainable and some choose to NOT rebel against despotic leaders who starve them through policy, but on the whole, humans have done what they needed to do to feed themselves, in America and elsewhere.

AND, I can tell you most Americans stay the #)!+ away from fried chicken. Educate and elucidate yourself on America before making such baseless and misinformed exclamations.

If you eat nothing but fruits and veggies, you are still eating something that was ALIVE. There seems to be this weird notion going around that nature involves zero cruelty. I always think about what I eat - chicken breast is low in fat and is loaded in protein, and if I don't eat it the fox or bear or hawk will. A vegetarian diet IS healthier, but you have the right to tell me what to eat when I have the right to tell you what to eat, and I say all you can eat is latex paint. Its all about choices, and you don't make mine or millions of others for me or them, just as we don't make yours for you. In case you don't understand the concept its called "freedom" and "choosing to accept the consequences of your own actions".

I'd like to know where you are from- the last time I checked, every single country on this planet eats animal protein!! And aren't plants alive- all those poor fruits and vegetables being thoughtlessly murdered, and why? For all those tree-hugging vegans!
No, just kidding- I try not to think about what I am eating. Do you know how they process the food we put into our bodies? Scary!

We have a huge population in this country. We have alot of obese people and alot of healthy people. Look at Canada for example . . . people always say "Oh people in Canada are so healthy" or "People in Canada arn't fat like Americans". Well there ARE lot's of obese people in Canada, but there population is smaller than ours. Techinically if you compare the percentage of obese people to the population it works out to be about the same percentage of obese people.

So it's not just this country. It's pretty much all western countries. Canada, US, Britain, Australia, ect. The pace of life is faster in Americanized and Western countries. It's work work work here. So people need things that are faster. For food, people resort to fast food because it's . . . fast . . . food.

So don't just blame Americans.

Humans are carnivores. Our bodies tell us this from our canine teeth, the to placement of our eyes, to the enzymes we produce to break down meat.

Cultures around the world eat meat so I'm not quite sure why this question is directed towards Americans.

I do think about the food I am eating, and yes I have seen how they are prepared.

I do not, however, eat veal, or any other food that is obtained by means of undo pain on the animal before it is slaughtered.

Because we have everything all the time. Our access is unprecidented. If our choices were more limited I think that our choices would be more educated.

am not rude n sorry to say that but u dont have time to think about what ur eating its all poisons just give urself a lil bit of time n think before u eat is it good is it healthy n then if u feel ok eat it n if not try to start from the beginning

I sometimes think about it. I feel bad that a chicken or cow had to die to ensure my survival. I feel bad that a vegetable had to give up it's life to give me nutrients. I guess it's wrong of me to eat anything without thinking about what I'm putting in my body. I should give thanks for every meal I eat. I should thank the chicken for sacrificing it's life for mine.

Eat, Drink, and Enjoy. God gave you a body and taste buds. Honor them. Just be sensible and remember that moderation is the key to a long life. Take that one step further and honor the life of others as well as what you eat. Choose your next meal based on your own beliefs.

I agree, same here I'm not a liberal hippy either but I know where you are coming from. You could also look at it though as we(the human population) have for thousands of years hunted and eaten other livng beings to survey. You could almost argue that it is in a way part of heritage. I really don't agree with hunting for sport and I don't like the idea of all these chicken farms and such that raise animals solely for slaughter...I'm not sure where the cut off is with morality and ethics and just considering it food and sustenance...
