Why hasn't smoking and alcohol been banned in the United States yet?
|
They are prohibited in the Bible. God forbids it and the United States of America(God Bless) is a Christian nation. Don't give me no b.s. about the constitution it's in our pledge of allegiance. The majority of people in this country are Christians and I don't want no one telling me I can't believe in Jesus.
Even the Allah peoples have banned alcohol and they live in 3rd world nations such as Saudi Arabia. Seriously smoking and alcohol NEEDS to be banned immediately in the United States.

If you're going to tell people that they can't do things to kill themselves you'll have to eliminate all fast food establishments and prepared foods in the freezer section of the grocery just for a start. How about you do your thing and let everyone else do theirs? |

Alcohol was banned in the US during prohibition, but it was a terrible failure. The bible doesn't forbid alcohol, it states that you shouldn't get drunk and abuse it. While the US government is based on religious beliefs, it also believes in allowing people personal freedom. Most places in the States have banned smoking in close quarters (ie restaurants) and public drunkeness. |

Take your theocracy and put it where the sun don't shine.
Believe what you want, but leave the rest of us out of it. |

Re-read your HISTORY book. Alcohol was banned in the U.S., called the Prohibition Era, and it created such a hugh black market, with gangs and the mafia running it. Al Capone was a major player in the Chicago area. The laws against marijuana have created the same thing, yet the Federal laws still exist, inexplicably. People have different needs, wants, etc. Some eat meat, some only vegetables. Some drink soda, some drink alcohol. Our Nation is founded on freedom of choice. Your religious views are just that. YOURS. So, don't drink and smoke, and let the rest of us alone to do as we believe. And what was Jesus drinking at the last supper? WINE!!! |

Hey Mr Holier Than Though!
Jesus drank wine... and you cant tell me he didn't drink a little too much every once in awhile. He had to make water into wine for a wedding. what about communion.. or do you use grape juice? puhleez!
Uncle SAM makes too much money by taxing alcohol and tobacco.
We need to start taxing churches IMMEDIATELY.. they are getting too big and out of control.

Alcohol and smoking products rake in too much cash and contribute to the American economy.
You must be one of those nutcases who want church and state to be together. I hate people like that. And so do our forefathers.
Anyway, as people above have said, alcohol is not prohibited in the Bible. Smoking is never mentioned in the Bible.
I think you forget that Christianity is not the national religion of the US. When the legislative branch tries to pass laws, do you think they take a quick look in their Bibles to guide their decisions? |

Just as you don't want anyone telling you that you can't believe in Jesus, I don't want anyone telling me I can't have a beer and smoke some cigarettes. And maybe Islam does prohibit alcohol. They also seem to encourage flying planes into buildings filled with innocent people.
This is a free country. You have the right to say what you want and I have the right to flame you for it. But prohibiting tobacco and alcohol solves nothing. |

Alcohol is not forbidden in the Bible. Jesus turns water into wine.
The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892, and the words "Under God" were added in 1954. The Pledge of Allegiance is an oath, the constitution is the foundation for our government. |

Smoking and drinking are not banned because we in the US have the freedom to kill ourselves if we want to. By the way, you can believe in whatever you want. It's a free country. |

Those countries have BANNED drinking.
We tried banning drinking, it didn't quite work. There was more crime.
There's nowhere in the bible that bans drinking, even Jesus himself drank wine.
There was water to drink and Jesus turned it into wine.
The message there is to make more alcohol.
The bible also says to accept and forgive. It is not your job to judge. If I'm drinking and smoking (which I don't), it's God's job to punish me. |

First, alcohol isn't prohibited in the Bible - getting drunk is. Responsible use of alcohol is not a sin.
Smoking is not even mentioned in the Bible. But it can be inferred to be a sin, because it can easily be an addiction, and it destroys the body.
As you are a Christian, I would think you would know these things.
Whether or not something is in the Pledge of Allegiance matters not, since the Pledge is not a legally binding document - nor, for that matter, is the Declaration. The Constitution, however, IS a legally binding document.
Love Jack
PS: I have to respectfully disagree with nopedamni. Prohibition may have been a failure in the sense that it didn't stop everyone from drinking, and it helped to spawn organized crime. However, Prohibition did cause a noticeable change in Americans' drinking habits. Before Prohibition, the average American consumed almost three times as much alcohol per year as after Prohibition, a stat which still stands today.
PPS: Also, there are nude beaches in the USA if anyone wants to go topless tanning, or all nude tanning, so there's no need to go to Mexico or Brazil. I am fortunate enough to live near one in NJ. Also, in NYC it's legal for women to go topless in the parks. |

I do not drink, nor do I smoke, but I truly think you have been drinking or smoking something stronger then they drank in the Bible. They did not smoke in the Bible because there was nothing to smoke. Tobacco was brought back to Europe from the Native American Indians who did not read the Bible until the Christians ripped them off of their land and sent them to mission schools to teach them the white man's way. Something like we are doing in Iraq today. I wonder why that is not working either. And as far as no alcohol in Saudi Arabia... it is like the Tom Haggard show. On the surface you preach all the tenets of the religion you trying to ram down peoples' throats, but in the back your consorting with those vile, filthy. nasty sinners because they are having a hell of a lot more fun then you are. |

I agree somewhat with the 1st guy. But it is a bit deeper than that. The bible does not tell you that smoking and drinking are forbidden. It states that one should not allow themselves to be drunk. More importantly, not to cause another man to stumble into drunkeness. To treat the body as a temple.
Most people in this country are not christians. They believe in "a God" . But most of them are not saved. It is unfortunate. Because it is a wonderful thing to know that there is a God that loves and cares for you. And that you will someday meet in person. |

Where does the bible ban alcohol? It warns about drunkenness and warns not to enter the tabernacle drunk, but there is no alcohol ban. Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding feast. He didn't open a can of Welches concentrate and make juice for the guests. I believe that wine is suggested as a stomach remedy somewhere, I don't thump my Bible so I can't tell you chapter and verse.
Where in the heck does it say "Thou shalt not smoke"?
You are very confused. READ the Bible and live it. |

To many taxes are raised from it, and I have been to Saudi Arabia, and have spent time on an Algerian Frieghter, the Red Label Scotch flowed freely.
Humans are Humans, we will drink, smoke and look at as well as have relations with women, that is how we keep things going.
If the Muslims had it figured out, then why are the laws still being changed in Pakistan. |

They are both multi-million dollar industries, which will probably
never be shut down. It would be like trying to shut down the
automobile industry, the automobile is responsible for many
deaths too. It will never happen. |

i dont know but ill tell you what if you want to go ahead. I think weed should be leagilized its not as harmful as cigartes. And it will make you dumb if u get realy stooned it be like sniffing paint markers if u smoke alot. And dont judge unless uve tried or no about it. IT will be legalized when i own everything but trust me alot will screw u up ive answerd befoe check out my smart ness int he poltics section of i need 5 reasons to trust the goverment im the long paragrah of well. About weed to theres not alot of wars started over it like crack and crakc and coaciane are almost the same crack is half coke and baking soda i wil never do crak to harmfull weed in small amounts but it will mess u up well to mcuh of course. Like alchol.there would be wars over cigartes but its legal so theres not. The same with alchol it was illgeal in the 20s oe 30s something like that to many illgeal selling and fight so once it was legal tose died down. Also i like to say alchole isnt bad it should be legal and it is and why drinkng age aint 18 is because u go home drunk and could kill someone while driving there. I know a couple of kids who drink and drive they don;t do it any more but if uread the 5 reason goverment thing im 16 ive been stoned and drunk.drinking age fine but at clubs to be served at 18 but to purchase 21 who knows im not an adult yet ill wait till i know more. ANd u can grow weed that why it illegal and during the vintneam war the prostestre u call hippes used it alot so they thought banning it would stop protesing well it did a little. Im going to say about topless tanning some people say its nasty well if u want to go to the beaces or carribean or mexico. I dont mind as long as there not ugly but thats unfair to those who are. SO i fu want ot be nude go to the beaches or ur house or nude community if u dont want to see it avoid those places. Alos tanning nude is better so u avoid tanlines. IF ur a girl who wants to atrract alot of guys do it for one they dont want to see in a shirt were it shows the white mark ewwwwwwwww. |

Is there a full moon out tonight?
The bible does not prohibit smoking or alcohol. Drunkenness is forbidden but I can't remember any passages mentioning smoking.
Plus there is always that pesky separation of church & state thing.
Although I do agree we would be healthier if we didn't smoke or drink alcohol (or drink modestly as most doctors say) it is an individual choice - not the states nor the churchs. |
