Not enough laws for you already, I guess. |

Just a little bit of a control freak are you? This is a free country and the decision as to how people bodies are laid in the dirt should be theirs, not yours, the governments, or mine. |

That would be scary.
Allowing the government to confiscate your organs without your or you family's permission.
They take enough already. |

What part of the word "Donor" do you fail to understand?
To donate means to VOLUNTEER to give something.
If it became a law that you had to "donate"... then it would be a tax.
And... Donor cards are essentially meaningless. If your family disagrees, once you have died your body belongs to your relatives and they can donate your organs or not, regardless of what you have put down as your wishes. |

Because some people have religious reasons for not doing so, or someone might have an incurable disease which makes them ineligible to be a donor. |

Mainly because it is an ethical reason. Some religions don't agree with being organ donors. Other people just simply do not wish to be cut up and split around after they are gone.
You can't force someone to donate part of their body, it has to be a personal decission. |

It's called individual liberty. Post-mortem considerations are a religious matter for millions of Americans. Not all of us want to be dismembered upon death. Freedom of religion, among other things, allows us (or family) to decide for ourselves what will be done with our remains.
I'm an atheist organ donor, myself...But I thoroughly respect the decisions my fellow citizens make for their bodies, even after death. |

You have heard of religious freedom, haven't you? Many people believe it is wrong to transplant organs.
Would you like to live in China where they tell you how many children you can have, too? Or one of the many countries where what job you get is chosen by the government, based on how you do in school, and you have nothing to say about it? |

From what I have heard recently, one doesn't have to agree to have organs removed after death. Many of our body parts are disappearing in the funeral parlor. In fact, this practice is so prevalent that there are lawsuits going on about it right now.
Certain organs must be removed before actual physical death to be usable. Then they must be kept iced before being used. The lists of those needing organs is lengthy and the waiting time is intolerable. That is why many people go to other sources. China is currently selling organs at about $250,000 or more apiece. It is said that they are ordering execution for minor offenses, just to get the organs and the profits.
To make organ donation mandatory might end in chaos, since some people are too old or diseased, some have religious objections, and it might lead to fraudulent blackmarketing.
It would be far better if scientific research had the right to use Stem Cell Research in order to discover ways to regrow needed organs. It is stupidity to have people dying when this process is a definite possibility and could lead to an end to so much misery. |

More people don't want to donate organs than people who do. If the process was reversed think of the ramifications. Whole agencies deticated to most of the US declining donation, then think of the lawsuits if someone's organs are donated due to an error in processing.
the gov't shouldn't pass a law telling me what happens to my body unless I do something. It's my choice. If I choose to donate I will. |

Being an organ donor is a VERY personal issue. One of the misconceptions about being in organ donor is that you are dead before they take your organs. The truth is they wait for that person to be in a coma or dead, the doctors are legally able to harvest the organs. It would not matter if the person has a chance to recover or not.
Not everyone is eligible for donating their organs and some individuals would rather have their bodies sold to science instead. Personally, I would NOT want my organs donated until I was MUCH older. There are many times when someone goes into a coma and do recover. If all else fails, then I wouldn't mind...but they don't wait for that scenario.
People of ALL ages should have a living will of some kind. People should consider life insurance and other benefits if they are able to acquire these benefits. It shouldn't matter how old the person is. |

The law requiring everyone to donate their organs is unconstitutional. |

First of all, having an "organ donor" card means NOTHING. Your family STILL decides.
Now, quite frankly the reason it isn't required is simple. Some religions forbid it. That is their personal belief. |

I live in Wichita, Kansas and if you want to be a donor it is on the back of your drivers license, Its America and it is all about choice. Learn to respect other peoples religious views, support stem cell research this would solve a lot of your issues. |

Because its a personal choice some religions forbids that, And some people have diseases that cant donate. And the government has imposed too many laws on us all ready. |

I didn't see your way in the Bible.
Some People, and Religions believe
that when a person dies their whole body
remains intact, and undisturbed. |

This may be a dumb answer but something I believe. I am not an organ donor, nor do I give blood. However, if hospitals would DONATE my organs or blood instead of charging the hell out of people for something I GAVE them, I would be glad to donate. So I will gladly sign a donor card if the hospital will give what they charged the recipient for my organ, to my family. |

Same reason could be given as is given for abortion.
"It is my body,my choice. No one has the right to tell me what I can do with my body"
That being said,I am an organ donor.I have no use for them after I am gone. However,it should not be a decision forced on anyone,we all have different beliefs. |

I don't know why everyone is not an organ doner. But, the gov't doesn't have the legal right to have everyone on the list. |

Because everyone should have a choice, whether it be for personal or religious reasons, as to what is done with their bodies during their lives or with their remains after their death. No decision like that should ever be compulsory. |

I am a recipient of a heart, I thank the donor and his/her family everyday that I am here. The federal governments or state governments do not have the right to demand that anyone be a donor of any of your organs. A living will takes care of that decision for you and even your family can't contradict that will. Donating your organs should be of your free will without being forced or coerced. People that are organ donors do carry a card for the most cases. People must undergo a serious vigorous of test to qualify to be a donor. It is not something that hospitals take lightly. You can receive more information from Life-Link, Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Florida. for more information. I wish there were more donors, God knows a lot of lives could be saved as a result of this wonderful gift of life. I hope this helps make you understand a little more on the subject. Thank You for the question. |

Totally off topic but was your misspelling of the word Donor deliberate? As in, the Donner party, as in, cannibalism? Since, in essence, that's what this topic is, its about the lack of ownership of our very bodies?
Yeah I'm reaching a little, but it struck me as fascinating. |

I suppose that's coming soon. You can't smoke in public in many places. About a third of what you earn goes right to the government, before you see it. There are words you can't say.
It's just a matter of time before our bodies don't belong to us anymore. |
