You don't pay taxes on MJ and you do on alchohol. |

Both should be illegal. |

marijuana is perfectly legal - in India.
A little morning cup of bhang lasse and you are good to go!
Marijuana in India and alcohol in the US and Russia are examples of mood altering substances that are wide spread in the culture for hundreds of years. Prohibition caused a backlash in the US. Try banning mj in India, or chewing coca leaves in south america, or betel nuts in some pacific rim areas. Or tobacco.
Cultural acceptance is your answer. |

i agree with you... well, slightly, i think they should both be legal, and rather than making alcohol or dope illigal, make it so if some one does somethink irrisponsible, then they should be temporerorly band from drinking alcohol or smokeing the herb.
that would be grand |

I don't smoke, but I agree.
I'd feel safer with a smoker than I would with a drinker, especially in a car!
A drunk driver can kill you.
A smoker? IF you can get him behind the wheel (not likely),
they'd probably get a ticket for going too slow! |

It has to do with taxation, young sir/madam. There is already a system in place to tax alcohol. Taxing marijuana would create such a change in the system of monies that anarchy might result. It has nothing to do with the effect on the human body, but everything to do with the flow of currency. Thank you for asking. |

Because the alcohol and tobacco industries are paying our politicians a great deal of money to keep it that way. |

Becaues everyone acts funny on marajuana and you know it, while everyone acts funny while your drunk and your completely oblivious.. make sense.. a little? I understand it is definitally more dangerous to drink than smoke, but if you were to compare the two, HEAVY drinking and HEAVY smoking, one you would pass out; the other you would most likely end up sitting in the car, trying to figure out how to turn it on, forget you were supposed to be turning it on then say forget it and get a beer. |

its simple tax, not everyone can brew their own drink but any joe blow can throw some seeds in the ground and grow their own smoke |

That is depending upon the law makers.
Both are not good for the person and the society |

I find this completely and utterly true.
I am also against the fact that Alcohol is legal while MJ is not.
Really the society needs to get their heads out of their ***'s and figure there **** out! |

It has nothing to do with the properties of either substances, or the welfare of the public. The 'illegality' of marijuana and other substances ('illegality' placed in quotes because the federal government was never granted the power to prohibit the private possession or use of ANY substance), is based in racism and corporate greed. Simply use any internet search engine to find "Anslinger Hearst DuPont Marijuana" and you should be able to easily find the whole story. |

that's a good question |

Well I agree with you there, but alcohol is already legal, and marijuana is not. Try making alcohol illegal, ever heard of the prohibition? Didn't work out too well. Just because one of the two evils is legal does not justify making both of them legal. |

i thinks its because more people drink alcohol rather then smoke weed so the government keeps alcohol legal so they can get the tax from it |

From my understanding, in the USA, these rules where decided by religious groups. Christianity itself was to blame in part for advocating alcohol consumption in the for of wine. And in doing so help to generate a world wide drinking problem. This(not wanting to make the this mistake again), I believe to be part of their reason for their strong stance against any other habitually addictive substance.
P.S.Long term abuse of Marijuana has lead to deaths as well; a man in the UK this year died from this & it says so on his death certificate. |

that is a good question. like andre 3000 of outkast says in one of his songs, "marijuana illegal, but cigarettes cool? i might look kinda funny, but i ain't no fool." personally, i think it's the government trying to dumb us down. marijuana, like bob marley said, makes you meditate. "it make ya rebel", he said. alcohol just makes you impared. incapacitated, unable to function. marijuana makes you feel good. the last thing the government wants us to be is under our own control. hey. think about it. |

We've gotten to the point where we can't criminalize alcohol, because it's been legally accepted in our society for so long. Having said that, the last thing we need to do is to add another "legal" drug to the list. |

because the amount of alcohol that you take is important.but even if you use marijuana once it may cause some serious problems.but a little amount of alcohol wont hurt and i heard it good for your health even! |

I suggest you discuss this with your local policemen.
One possible reason is the ease of addictiveness of the substance, which they don't make any mention of in the passage. |
