There are many many reasons, all of them illegitimate. Harry Anslinger first attempted to alcohol illegal (prohibition) when that failed he turned to marijuana. The main reason it was first made illegal was racism. Anslinger testified in front of a grand jury saying that marijuana made white women seek relations with ******.
This was all done with 0 research on the drug.
The laws were put in place todiscriminatee against mexicans, blacks, and entertainers.
Another reason is that the US government makes so much money confiscating drug money and fining people caught with this drug.
Finally, probably the only legit reason it is outlawed is because there is no Breathalyzerr" for pot. An officer must be able to easily test ones sobriety, because undoubtebly if legalized, people will claim that it empairs motor skills and driving should not be allowed while high. |

Alcohol is not always drunk to get someone drunk. In fact it's only a small portion of the population that does that. The only reason to smoke marijuana however is to get high. |
