It seems to me that the only one whose life I'm risking by not wearing a seat belt is mine, so I should be allowed to not wear it. I mean, certain drugs are illegal because the people who get high then go out and commit crimes, but not wearing a seatbelt hurts absolutely no one else at all. Hell, secondhand smoke arguably hurts people, so if wearing no seat belt is legal then smoking definitely should be illegal. As well as alcohol. And doing any dangerous line of work, from daredeviling to studying volcanoes to being a scuba instructor.

Daredevils and racecar drivers don't drive on public roadways, at least not legally. If they have an accident and are thrown from their vehicles, they chances of their bodies becoming projectiles that kill other people is much less. |
