I understand its because the government cant make money off it because people can just grow it on their own, but even though, why cant it still be made legal? I dont even know if I make sense or not, but if I do, let me know.

it started with propaganda back in the 40's ...basically the guy who invented nylon rope realized that hemp rope was much cheaper and just as effective as his nylon, he had some connections in the government and he pulled some strings to get a campaign going to exploit the drug use side of the plant, that was then associated with racism against mexicans and African americans and it became a huge propaganda blast that made people think that smoking marijuana would make you kill, rape, steal, murder and pillage. thus it became illegal because of racism and a financial battle in the rope industry. |

The first law regarding Hemp in the united states was to require farmers to grow it.
Now, because of big interest groups (have any idea how much money is spent on jails because of drug prohibition?), it remains illegal until we get some people in power who aren't so easily bought. Good luck with that. |

Because it is a drug.
The government could make money off of it. I think they just don't want to see a bunch of potheads on the roads while they are high! |

The only reason I have heard people give is "it's bad."
Cigarettes are far more addictive.
Alcohol is far more dangerous.
Prescription drugs have much harsher withdrawal symptoms.
Cars kill people all the time, no one wants to get rid of cars because it will inconvenience them.
Marijuana staying illegal doesn't inconvenience non-marijuana users, so they don't care.
And it has certainly proven to be less "bad" than other non-required items.
And if only the people against it weren't so stupid they'd realize making it legal would allow them to regulate it, and tax it, rather than letting all this dope slide through the black market. |

This is a good question! Because it's like a cigarette (NO! i have never smoked i heard it in D.A.R.E)so yeah well its like a cigarette but it has allot more chemicals, since it has no filter. And it has allot more things that clog up your lungs. I don't think it will ever become legal. It is very dangerous and causes any problems and effects your brain and body in horrible ways. |
