Why is marijuana illegal but tobacco isn't?

Tobacco doesn't impair your body and mind in the same way that marijuana does. A better question would be, why is alcohol legal and marijuana isn't? It has nothing to do with taxes, in fact many people in the government would prefer to make marijuana legal so that it can be taxed.

I don't support smoking of any kind...however since we have to put up with people who do, I would much rather meet another driver on the road who is smoking a tobacco cigarette than one smoking a marijuana cigarette. My life and the lives of others with me are my concern and the dopehead who puts others in harmsway doesn't have any concern or else he/she would not be doing that stuff to begin with!

Because of the stigma that it is a steeping stone drug that leads to harder drugs,also there hasn't been enough clinical trials as to the long term effect's that it can cause. and the old debate that it's no worse than booze doesn't cut it two wrongs don't make it right. Don't get me wrong I am in favor of making it legal but it has been an uphill battle and I started to become involved in it in 1968 until people open there minds nothing will change even if you can change the state law Fed. law supersedes state law. be cool.

Marijuana is illegal be cause the large pharmaceutical company's would lose revenue from the World Wide Control of opine sales and processing and distribution to a herb that can be grown anywhere, and replace a lot of different medicines that do and do not contain opine.

Here is the short answer to a long, drawn out debate. I have yet to see a person smoke a cig and got to the corner store and buy nasty five day old hot dogs because they have the munchies. The lobbies for the tobacco industry have a very strong presence in the leadership of our country, and they have very, very deep pockets. I hope I have shed some light on this for you.

Tobacco is profitable and has been a part of America LITERALLY since it's beginning. Marijuana comes from foreign nations under the table where it is not subject to tariffs or other forms of taxation. Therefore, without a viable source of profit for the federal government it is deemed illegal. Everything else is a smear campaign.
True, marijuana can have adverse health affects - as we all know - but in truth it really is no worse than alcohol; when used in moderation.

Are you guys aware tha more people a year get into automobile accidents while smoking a ciggarette than while being under the influence of weed.... Marijuana has NEVER been proven to kill brain cells and has never been proven to cause cancer of any kind.... For those of you that have never had the pleasure of being under the influence of cannabis it does NOT cause similar effects as acid. You dont see things and you can still function as a normal human if you choose. Your reflexes will obviously be slowed but you dont go completely dumb from a little weed. and to William T, your an idiot... Yes they would LOVE to tax it but they CANT.... it would be to hard to regulate and they make more money off the fines rather than they would from the taxes so they leave it be.....
