Why is police corruption an ongoing problem and what can be done to help fight it?

I just want some opinions as to what can be done about police corruption because it is an ongoing problem that gets attention from the media but yet there is not enough being done to decrease the amount of corruption that occurs.

First, better screening of Police recruits. If one messes up prosecute to the fullest.

I'm also in favor of civilian review boards.

As time goes on and we allow more corruption in our civil laws, and Govt. officials, there will be more corruption. If you are a pro football player or a political figure you are immune. The only trickle down we got from our supposedly leaders. Follow the money!

Some towns seem prone to it, but I'm in a large city and I've never heard of it here. How's it affecting you? You hear the isolated case in the media, but I can't remember when I last heard anything, except for a small suburb south of me......

I agree with Jimdotedu. We should screen better and give a zero tolerance attitude in law enforcement. We need to make sure the Chief of police is doing his job, him and the mayor.
