Why is the Miranda v. Arizona a landmark case?

Because that case established that the police have to inform you of your right to remain silent and your right to an attorney when they arrest you. Before that, they didn't have to say anything. Now, if the police don't read you your rights when they arrest you, and you were to say something incriminating, the statement can be thrown out and it would be inadmissable.
