Why is the U.S. Government not allowing gays to marry?

What reasons are they stating that marriage is between a man and woman. These are religious beliefs. Is there a legal reason for disallowing gays to marry other than because (for now) it is okay to restrict the rights of gays (what the gov. used to do to blacks)? From a legal standpoint, all men (and women) are created equal, as long as they aren't gay?

Because the U.S. Government doesn't marry people- those powers are vested by the individual States.
But I agree with you, legalizing discrimination is a terrible idea. |

Well "marriage" is technically holy matramony, or whatever, however it has become a blanket term for the civil union between a man a woman, in some states this is changing. There doesnt really need to be a legal standpoint if the law doesnt pass. thats all there is to it, representatives are supposed to vote with what they think the majority of the people they represent would want, they do that to get reelected |

Yes it's religious beliefs not any judicial. But remember this country was founded by religion that is why in the dollar bills it say in GOD WE TRUST. And when presidents swear in they put their hands on the bible. That is the only reason. |

It's not the government's decision. It is a decision for individual states and the people, who mostly oppose gay marriage. |

Because the insurance companies are paying them not to allow gays to get married, because then they would have to cover the spouses of gay people, gay people should pay the government more then than the insurance companies and then they would be allowed to marry. |
