the US population is about 5 Times greater than the UK plus they have more access to firearms than us.
ans as for the first person who answered if we are so scared like you say how come its you hiding behind locked doors with your guns not us ? |

Because there are 300,000,000 of them and 59,000,000 of us. the difference being 241,000,000 . So you expect a lot more shooting over there. The current rate does not truly reflect the difference in population. And gun control would do nothing there because as we have seen, it did nothing for us here.
In fact there has been more gun crime since they were banned. |

Because it is illegal to possess firearms in the U.K |

First off, the United States has 5 times the population of the U.K.
Secondly, the United States is a more free society. The availability of weapons is more broad in the United States. With freedom comes responsibility and not everyone is always responsible but for that reason we do not punish the rest of the people that are.
Remember, people cause harm not guns, not cars, not knives, etc. It is always people that cause violence.
Guns are not the problem, never have been and never will be. Guns on the other hand can be a great help to you if trying to deter violence or defend yourself. |

Because you have a media that idolises violence and guns and you sell them everywhere. You have internalised violence as being part of your culture, some americans use it against robbers, others against arseholes, others because they dont like the people around them. Why do you sell them so freely if you do not want people to use them? Simple really, give a child a gun, tell them it is dangerous and they will want to try it, give an adult a gun make them a bit depressed and they will shoot. |

In the US anyone with a violent explosive temperament, a grudge or knuckes that scrape along the floor can buy an amazing assortment of automatic assault weapons. |

more people ,more guns in US = more people to abuse the freedom to have guns |

Might be because guns are banned in the UK. But also Big Brother is watching in the UK. Every nook, ever cranny right down to street lights having camaras. So if someone purchases one on the black market it's easy for the police to spot!!! |

just like every thing that US do we are not that far behind them, i think people either forget or choose not to listen to the gangster shootings, school children knife attacks. ???? our country is no better we hear us Brits complain about the obesity levels over in the states yet we have such a severe problem with it our selves.
doesn't matter what it is if we are not killing strangers with guns or knives then we chose to kill the ones we love with food.
no country/person/unit is perfect so stop pretending! |

There are numerous factors that fall under this category. First of all it is very easy to obtain a firearm or any other weapon. You can purchase weapons used by law enforcement online for example. Second, the United States is a very diverse country that is full of racism and hatred. Third, people abuse drugs very frequently in the United States. I'm not saying they dont in the U.K. but it is definately more common in the United States. and lastly, the U.K. is not hated by basically every country like the U.S. is. |

I'm going to guess because there are more guns : )
Now having said that, I've been to Britain plenty of times and I'm certain most Brits would agree that there is significant level of violence there. In recent years, a stabbing culture has emerged among youths. I don't know the comparison levels of violent crime in Britan vs. America. Can someone share that data?
I think a better question is why a country like Canada can have liberal gun laws and low gun crime per capita and American can't? Are Canadians better educated than Americans?

Both countries have gun legislations proposed. But the US has far more powerful a gun lobby to resist it than the UK does. |

There is a larger level of gun crime compared to population size in the US (so its not that there is a larger population). Part of it is the easy availability of guns. Most states in the US have slightly different policies concerning gun use so there are great differences between states.
This variance due to different political views means that in some areas where a policy similar to that of the UKs is used a similar or slightly smaller amount is around. Where there is a ready supply of weapons legally then people can use them for the wrong reasons more easily and therefore more frequently. |

We are a larger and more free country. Firearms played a larger role in forming and defending it. We are also less mature as we are far younger that the U.K. |

because there are more laws here in the us. it just promotes violence. if criminals knew there were people on the street with guns (who know how to use them), they might think twice about committing a crime. thats why guns are such a problem, theres nothing stopping criminals from using a firearm. they have the upper hand. |
