If I beat someone up I would go to jail for physical assault, but my girlfriend cheated on me and broke my heart. Nothing bad happened to her, in fact, she's engaged 2 the guy. Why do I go to jail for beating you up, which caused some nasty bruises, but you're fine in a few days. but when you cheat on me, you cause me 2 cry, have trouble sleeping, and in extreme cases, commit suicide.
Why is beating someone up illegal but breaking their heart is not?

Since you physically injured a person, there are signs of trauma after the event. "Breaking someones heart" is a poetic way of saying "she dumped me." Please let it go, since she is not tied to you in any form, and even if she was, would she like you because she feels it in her heart or because it is a forceful action? If you can prove your heart is literally broken, then we have a case my friend. |

Sorry for your anguish, but as the first respondent said, what's the government going to do? The law can't obligate someone to love you.
Someone can be just as heartbroken by a love who breaks it off without cheating. Someone can fall in the state you describe just by being rejected by someone, thus being heartbroken because of a person they were never involved with. |

Breaking someone's heart is EMOTIONAL pain, obviously.
You can control your feelings and cope with them. there are no laws, and there shouldn't be any laws, for simply hurting feelings.
And if someone has the capability of suicide, there is something MENTALLY wrong with them. Therapy should have taken place somewhere along the way..
Beating someone up is PHYSICAL pain. there is a huge difference in that. there's a possibility of death if you beat someone up bad enough. everyone has the right to LIFE and we are protected with these rights..
This is like asking " What's the difference between killing someone & making fun of their weight "

It's a lot harder to provide evidence for "heartbreak". If we lived in a country where it was illegal to make others upset we'd constantly be sueing each other. I have the right to conduct my relations with other people how I want, I don't want to "break hearts" and I definitely don't want my heart broken, but that's the way life goes. |
