the fact that cigarettes are legal and pot is not is amazing. cigarettes kill you, period. anyone who thinks pot is the same is ignorant... it does not contain nicotine, it does contain some tar, but it also has effects which help the cells fight cancer... and if you're worried about that, you don't have to burn it, you can vaporize... I'm an American and just like I'm allowed to drink a whiskey and ice I should also be allowed to smoke a joint. Morally there is no reason to make it illegal, politically it is a dangerous subject to touch, but they have a lot of propaganda trying to keep it that way... catch phrases such as "gateway drug"

your kids already smoke it. make it legal and get over it! people will be much better off.

also, its content should be regulated a hell of a lot better than cigarettes' are. Cigarettes contain additives which make their affects on your health much worse... when they legalize pot, they should make those additives, such as ammonia and other poisons illegal, for both cigarettes and pot.

If you'd like to know something that might explain why it's not already legal, check this out. Google "private prisons"

"Imagine a full-fledged corporate public relations campaign designed to whip up crime hysteria in order to increase profits."

From the Heritage Foundation (for those who like sources from both sides)

"Contracting out prison labor

By putting prisoners to work and paying them competitive wages, many private companies are reducing prison costs for the government by withholding earnings for taxes, room and board, family support, and victim's compensation. Such employment also gives prisoners the skills and work experience that will prepare them for the job market when they are released."

ie, slave laborers working for corporations

"Florida is Leader
Florida in 1981 became the first state to contract out the entire state prison industry to private management. Prison Rehabilitative Industries & Diversified Enterprises Inc. (PRIDE), a firm based in Clearwater, Florida, now manages all 53 Florida prison work programs as a for profit operation. "

Thanks, Jeb.

"would you want to be operated on a surgeon high on pot?" Uhm no, as I would not want to be operated on a surgeon who has a nervous twitch because he needs a smoke, or a surgeon who has just slammed a few margaritas. What a moronic fricking question.

What it boils down to is this, DOES THE GOVERNMENT OWN MY BODY? The answer is a RESONDING NO!!! I should be able to put into my body ANYthing I want. Period. If I do something illegal and caught becuase of what I put into my body (beat my wife, run over a kid, invade a sovriegn nation w/o provocation) then I should be held accountable. However, ingesting, buying, growing, or selling the substance should be 100% legal.

You really think its worse than alcohol. How may people are killed every year by high (on MARIJUANA ONLY) drivers. How much domestic violence is attributed to marijuana abuse?

I think if alcohol and cigarettes are legal, pot should be too. All the damage seems to come from chronic use (like alcohol and unlike cigarettes, which kill you from the moment go.)

pot kills brain cells...(and i'm sure other things)

alcohol kills brain cells, damages, liver, kidney's, heart, etc.

tobacco causes cancer, lung and heart disease, and more.

hmmm?...maybe i'll quit drinking and smoking cigs and stick with pot....lol

If it were legal - then the government would tax the hell out of it like they do with cigs and alchohol.... for that reason I am surprised it isn't legal.

But what is the dif? It's the same as alcohol... Cleaner than cigs.

Somehow legalizing it would take money away from the gov. probably because of drug busts - so I think it all comes down to money - how much the gov. gets. People are going to smoke pot whether it is legal or not. It doesn't stop people by making it illegal.

It will not be legalized because it cant be taxed
Its all about the money.
As it can be grown anywhere so any one can grow it so therefor it cant be taxed.

Well, cigarettes are legal and they'll kill you.
Alcohol is legal and it causes people to do things they wouldn't normally do if they drink to much of it. It also is a leading killer in vehicle accidents.
We know that pot gets you high. It's also as bad for your lungs as cigarettes. Usually worse, because it's not filtered. Why would we want to legalize one more thing that can make you sick and can cause you to have an accident if you use it and drive?

If it were ever legalized it would only be legal for medical use, which is fine by me.

koolbreeze
Because it makes you lazy, and people are just too busy these days.

I'm against 100% legalizing Pot BUT, It does have medical purposes I think should be explored. It can help with certain vision problems and it can also be very helpful in getting cancer suffers to have an appetite. So Yes and No Pot should be legal in certain medical situations but NO it shouldn't be legal simply for recreational purposes.

Pot should not be legalized because it is a gateway drug, it is harder on your lungs than cigerettes, and it makes you lazy, in my opinion.

Personally, I think it should be. If it was legal, then it could be used medically. And if it was legal, it could be taxed. So that means if the government taxes the pot so much, then people wouldn't even be able to afford it and the problem is gone.

Zebra
It is bad for you no matter how much of it you use.
