From my knowledge, a lot of times the government will force you to answer a certain way because they are convinced that you are guilty and they don't wanna hear different. If you don't plead guilty in that case, then they will keep interrogating you until you do. |

"Why plead gulity if your innocent?" - Because they believe they are likely to lose at trial. Eye-witness testimony is the least reliable evidence that exists, however it is readily accepted by juries. A bad identification could convince someone to plead guilty. |

Some people plead guilty to a lesser charge in hopes of avoiding the guilt of the original charge. And to avoid the ever ready to crucify Court of Public Opinion.I dont think I'd ever plead Guilty to anything i didn't do.But then again I have never been in that situation.I am sure that when people are in that situation it is way easier said than done to not plead out.But as I said before. In my personal opinion,it is never smart to admit guilt if you are innocent. But it is also never a good thing to be indicted period. But you also need to remember that there are tons of crooked cops, politicians, lawyers to make your life miserable if you dont "play ball".(agree with whatever they want you to) |

Less time in prison, a lesser sentence, a lower fine |

Some do it to avoid jail time or to get a lighter sentence because they probably think they'd still be convicted. |

In addition to the plea bargaining and sentence reduction considerations mentioned by others, some defendants charged with a crime may find themselves financially unable to post a bail bond and obtain pretrial release. If the proposed guilty plea involves probation, then the defendant who persists in a not guilty plea is faced with a choice between sitting in jail until the case can be tried or pleading guilty and obtaining immediate probation. I'm sure you can see the problem. |

Mainly because it is often a safer way to proceed. You know what will happen while if you go to trial you may face much worse penalties. Also it saves time and possibly your time is more valuable than the penalty is harsh. Another possibility is that you could avoid embarrasing publicity. |

Because it will be easier that the penalty is smaller and much more chances than getting out of jail after a while.. but if you dont do it and you are found guilty you will be sentenced to much omore time... |

Because the system is so bad that fighting the charges can be a worse punishment then the punishment for being guilty. |

Sometimes it is unlikely for a person to be found innocent because of the evidence. They plead guilty to get a shorter sentence than if they plead innocent. |

Very often often the evidence against you can be strong enough that you would rather plea down to lesser charges and a reduced sentence, rather than risk a guilty verdict at trial. |

Some people probably know that they are going to get be found guilty by the jury, and might as well reduce the sentence.
And then, of course, there are some big scemes where people working with the criminal lie and say they did it for him as part of the plan. |

So you don't have to pay the legal fees of defending yourself and also if your can get a deal by pleading guilty to a lesser charge rather than taking a chance of being convicted of the higher crime. |

Sometimes it's easier in the long run. Or perhaps you lack faith in a jury of your peers. Go to Walmart some day, and spend an hour or two listening to the people around you. These are your "peers"... would you stake your freedom on these people? Best to just avoid any and all contact with the law. |

pure blackmail in my view, why admit to something you have not done . so if i was guilty and plead guilty i would get out faster than someone, who plead not guilty and was innocent and was found guilty. BRITISH JUSTICE, BEST AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. PS no wonder our prisons are full? |
