Why should drugs be legalized?

To remove the criminalization of normally law abiding citizens.
To free up police forces to go after hardened criminals.
To unburden penal institutions of petty criminals.
To reduce the number of PO, CO, Judges, and Lawyers.
To remove the "Forbidden Fruit"appeal surrounding drugs.
To generate taxes.
Need I go on?

some (heroine, cocaine) make you feel AMAZING like your having an orgasm for who knows how long, but basically force an addiction on you and ruin your life.

the current drug situation w/ laws in the country is fine
but laws should probably be more lenient on first time offenders.

They should not be legalized. People would abuse and become dependent if easily available. A good friend of mine died from a overdose of drugs. It destroyed him and everyone close to him.

taxes for our country, and national debt could be earned instead of giving all profits to 3'rd world drug producing countries.

stubborned, but non violent people are eating our taxes up in prisons on life sentences, while submissive child molesters and murderers are freed every day.

Enemies to our nation who are drug lords (supposedly the Taliban) and others we have not heard of are becoming rich and powerful through illegal trade we could regulate and control.

I want to take drugs without having to pay doctors and pharmacy majors so much for them, or without having to be put in the corner with a duntz hat for buying cheap drugs without a prescriptions.

Well people say its because drugs create a dangerous underground scene where people get hurt and arrested where they would otherwise not be, but i don't think they should be legalized by the government, because their job is to protect their people, and letting them do drugs without consequences is irresponsible to their wellbeing. So i guess thats both sides of the argument.

As a large investor, and a college tight end: I simply believe that it will become more difficult to oppress the intelligent, and or the just within our country, if drugs are legalized.

We were not allowed to kill them in public schools, and our God given right to do so as adults is now being challenged, so we must come to arms against them.

Like we need more drug addicts than we already have. One of the chief arguments for legalization is that if all drugs were legalized then the government would have millions of dollars to spend on other areas like education. Realistically Drugs will never be legal, although marijuana (and to a lesser extent cocaine) has some medicinal effects 95% of its users are just addicts. In addition millions of people rely on the drug war for income. Lawyers,judges,police, ect. Theres no reason to legalize any drug

First let me say this, I'm 38, I'm conservative and I don't do drugs.

I think Marijuana ought to be legalized. And I think it need to be taxed like tobacco and liquor and have abuse laws (DUI, etc.) and age restrictions (21 like alcohol) applied to it like alcohol.

I think the money saved on fighting that war combined with the money made on the taxes would help our government and at the same time strip the Mexican suppliers of the money and power that they have.

I think Marijuana farmers need to be licensed and crops need to be secured. And I think this ought to apply to any natural drug: peyote, shrooms, etc. Tax it and control it and you won't have to fight it.

Any other drugs Coke, Heroin, Crack, Meth, etc. need to stay outlawed.

Some should, like marijuana. The reason it's considered a gateway drug is because by itself, it's relatively harmless, but you have to meet a drug dealer to get it. Once you've met a drug dealer, if you're a certain type of personality, a new new world is opened up. If it was legalized, or decriminalized, that wouldn't be the situation.

Plus, when you you start penalizing offenders for pot, usually young and stupid kids, you also expose them to a much harsher world.

Not to mention, the reason it was made illegal in the first place was economic and immigration related. It's effects were highly exaggerated to frighten the public into agreeing. It's interesting reading.

Not all drugs should be legalized, though. Heroine, crack, etc. are truly dangerous, and there is no way that legally condoning their use is a good idea.

Why shouldn't they be? Everyone has to be so politically correct now, there is no one to say what is right and what is wrong because of it.

I don't think they should simply because of the fact that they alter your brain and limit your intelligence and mobility, both of which are needed kind of a lot in every day life; and when they're not, you're dead. And there are cooler ways to die.

To give a boost to security provider companies. More drug addicts, more socialist programs to take care of them, more hospitals to house them, more taxes for the government, more money in premiums for the insurance company's, including health, home (more break ins) and auto (more highway deaths), we would also have more money for advertising, more warehouses, salesman, TV ads and sponsors, magazines ad, ...it would be a hell of a boom to the economy. Drug dealers could go legit.

there are multiple reasons... first and foremost is that a few of them arent hurting anyone NEARLY as much as the government would have us believe and its all because of anslinger in the 50's. second and just as important is that this is a free country that is getting less and less free every day. they say a man who wishes to drink may drink but if you smoke some pot your going to jail. we should be free to put whatever we want into our bodies as long as we dont hurt anyone else. third, think about how much extra war money we could make by taxing them, and for that matter how much safer they could become if we were free to research and improve on them like everything else. jeez this subject gets me angry.
