It definately requires alot of paperwork, and its a smoother transition for some people than it is for others. i would suggest consulting with a lawyer to review it with you. |

you have to go to court and get it changed, you have to ask a judge and he is going to ask you questions like "are you doing this because of fraud" and some other questions.... It's a pretty easy process, but you have to let the world know you're changing you name. When you go to court they will explain everything to you.
oh yeah, and it costs a lot of money, btw. |

You can change it they will do a background check and credit check to determine why your doing it. |

in my opinion anything that needs a court order and lawyer is already a lot of trouble. if your willing to go through that your half way there. |

Just go to your local court house and tell them you want to change your last name..they will be able to tell you everything you need to know..I have changed my name 3times..when I got divorced I went to court to have it changed back to my maiden last name.. once you get your paper work with your new last name just go get it changed at the social security office, bank and all other important documents..It wasn't that hard to do! |

Its easy and nothing to worry about, as Long as you tell everyone what your doing, it costs nothing, do it, everything will be fine, take things easy, be calm, do it, Huh, so what, do it. Its cool. |

No, it's not a problem. All you need is the court order and to have it published in a newspaper, after that you need to notify Social Security and the IRS and they will change their records accordingly. Don't forget to inform your credit card companies as well as the credit bureau's too. Good luck. |

The process is quite involved and the Court's going to need a good reason to change your name.
Depending on your reason, it might be difficult - hard to say. |

im not sure about not being marries but when i got married it was easy, i went to the social security office and requested a name change form, took 2 weeks or so to get new card, really in 2-3 weeks all my name stuff was taken care of, once you get the court stuff done the rest will be easy... oh and it didnt cost me a penny, except for the gas money |

Should be no prob. Submit a request to change your last name, get the okay, get the paperwork, submit that with your birth certificate and ID to the SS office and you should be okay. You should be able to check online to find the office in your state/area, and they can also answer your questions. Good luck! |
|

I have a Question..

i have the same problem. im a girl and my first name is Jesus. i just don't do it. maybe wen i get married. |

Well, if you were in the Army, I'd tell you to fill out a DA form 4187, and take it down to leagle... but since you arn't (I think), then just go get a lawyer. He'll do all the paperwork for you, and file it with the court.
Don't wory about the tax man or SSA, all of it will work out, you just tell them your name, and they will ask if you have ever gone by any other names. Normally a question for married people, but will work for you too. |
